Excellent work (as always) from @ThaWeasle breaking down rounds 3 & 5 of Chimaev vs Strickland. There's something really satisfying after a debated split decision watching someone go through the fight with a fine tooth comb and apply the scoring criteria to the letter.

Sean Strickland and DDP trilogy will probably be made after the Imavov fight. Sean Strickland WILL win that fight just like he won the first fight, except this time, he won’t be taken down, and he’ll batter his face again. Robbed the first time, injured the 2nd. #UFCParamount

@FinesseTheBooks @JT_Lines These 4 second clips are from when the slider is being moved back. During the full clips you see it settle at the bottom meaning they're more likely under 145.5 than over. Hope this helps.

@Tales_core @EthNatUK Iirc this was in the middle of the round. The guy just started walking away thinking he heard the bell or something. Who knew getting hit in the head is generally not good for you.

Khamzat Chimaev didn't look right.. like the same wolf. Was it the weight cut issue? I still think he won. My thoughts 👇👇👇 linktw.in/ImkVdV

@g_ocd53557 @ParabolicNotice @afeldMMA Plus he was definitely not lean on fight night either. If you compare him at 170 and last weekend the main difference seems to be 15 lbs of fat. He needs a better team when it comes to nutrition & conditioning. Going all out in a cardio training right before the watercut is dumb.

Khamzat Chimaev reportedly cut 46 lbs ahead of UFC 328, including 29 lbs in the final 14 days leading up to the fight👀 A 46 lbs total cut is roughly 20% of his body mass. His reported timeline: ▪️ 231 lbs camp peak ▪️ 214 lbs two weeks out ▪️ 185 lbs on the scale ▪️ 11–13 lbs regained by fight night Khamzat’s reported 20% cut is more aggressive than the most-cited study on extreme MMA weight cutting (Kasper et al., 2019), the same study where the fighter still suffered acute kidney injury despite being medically monitored throughout the process. The research shows extreme cuts compromise: 🔻 Cardio and recovery between rounds 🔻 Kidney function and dehydration tolerance 🔻 Hormones tied to energy and recovery 🔻 Output once adrenaline fades Per his brother, Chimaev’s body “shut down” with 2.6 lbs remaining. The cut was paused for about an hour. After the scale, he reportedly put back on only 11–13 lbs by fight night. For context, studies show UFC middleweights on average regain around 18 lbs between weigh-ins and fight night. Chimaev entered the cage 5–7 lbs below a typical rebound. Then, less than 36 hours after his body quit on him during the cut, he stepped into a five-round championship fight. A split decision loss followed. Khamzat reportedly told Dana White he’s moving up to 205 lbs, yet reports are already surfacing that he’s “obsessed” with getting another fight with Strickland. Weight cutting in MMA is honestly one of the wildest parts of the sport ‼️

🚨According to his brother, Khamzat Chimaev's body shut down while trying to make 185lbs. The UFC had hinted at him fighting Jiri Prochazka for the 205lbs title, but then later wanted him to fight Sean Strickland. Which ended up making him heavier than usual.

@the3els Oh lmao my bad. Don't like either system though. Tbh p4p is a gimmick because it quite literally says nothing and is largely based on feelings. But considering that Khamzat was #4 before he got beat, it makes sense that he's above Van.

No fighter could cut that much on 6 weeks without fully compromising his performance. Part of the blame is on the UFC (a fly by night company) who promised khamzat the 205 title and the other part is on Khamzat’s team for accepting that

Chimaev held a 220+ pound guy down for 21 minutes while throwing output and chaining takedowns for 5 rounds 9 months ago. Then completely gassed out in 6 minutes vs Strickland. It’s very obvious the weight cut was a huge factor, alongside overtraining

@Natedogg977 @ChampRDS Do DDP v Imavov first, winner gets the shot, Imavov hasn’t done shit in ages Tired of these fighters that don’t fight nearly as much waiting for the division to move around enough without their input to justify a shot

@enriquevsoto @DovySimuMMA @pound4poundshow I just rewatched round 3 and understand why people give it to Chimaev. He had a small slip/stumble at the end of the round and got his nose busted. End round recency bias. Also, Sean rolled with a lot of punches which many people don't see. (despite commentators mentioning it)

@JedKMeshew Yes but didn’t you have the first round a 10-8 for Khamzat? There’s an image going around that you scored it 48-46. I had it 48-47 for Khamzat for the exact same reasons but if you gave Khamzat a 10-8 1st rd that’s criminal.

Guys, I dunno what to tell you. In my opinion, snapping Sean's head back multiple times and breaking his nose is more significant than several more jabs landed. I also was pretty clear that if you think the other way, that's fine. Strickland fans are real weird. Go touch grass.
Jed Meshew II@JedKMeshew

Just rewatched Strickland-Chimaev without sound. Still have it 3-2 Chimaev and I think that's the right score, but 3-2 Strickland is fine. R3 was the swing round. More strikes from Strickland, but more damage from Chimaev (which is supposed to score for Chimaev)

@SteadyHearn @MchaelSNM1 DDP1 was crazy close, even DDP said he thought it was 2-2 going into the 5th (Sean won 5th on all 3 scorecards) pretty much a toss up. 49-46 Costa was an INSANE scorecard. Honestly idk what that judge was smoking- reminded me of Vera v Sandhagen judging.
