@catholicpat He didn’t. The verses in question are 1 Peter 3:18-20 which are about Christ descending into Tartarus to minister to the sinning angels from before the flood who are imprisoned there. That happened after his resurrection.

@B16pal @ZeroSuitCamus The passages in question are 1 Peter 3:19–20 and 2 Peter 2:4 which like all of the New Testament was originally written in Greek. Sheol is the Hebrew word for the grave, Hades in Greek. But that’s not the word used in the verses above. It’s Tartarus, a totally different place.

Ecclesiastes says the dead are asleep and know nothing. Catholics don’t believe Christ really died, nor was raised.

back when he was senator obama, he said something that has apparently been wiped from the internet, so i’ll have to paraphrase. if you want to understand a man’s motivations, look at where he spends his time and money. the public persona of every politician is a farce, and obama didn’t invent that, but he was the first “modern” politician in the sense that he just openly pretended to do things he never did, and that he never said things that he did say, and so he was sort of this apex predator politician to whom truth does not apply. everyone thinks of trump in this way, but trump borrowed this model and adapted it to his own purposes, and so will everyone else from here on out. obama invented it. so anyway, what does the empty suit actually think? we can only deduce his motivations by his actions. trump routinely enriches himself and his friends, we can assume that to be his underlying motive, or proximal. obama routinely staffed, promoted, entrenched, and weaponized, institutions. it appears to be proximal that his thesis was to destroy the existing structures and replace them with ideological corruption.

It has never been clear to me what makes this man tick. What drives him. What his vices is are. What he fears.
