Growing up and through my career, I’ve witnessed the resilience and determination of women who held families, governments, and communities together, often in the face of great challenges. Their strength continues to inspire us all to advancing women’s leadership across the region. Through initiatives such as the IGAD Women Forums on Peace, Agriculture, Digital Security and Artificial Intelligence, and Land Governance, alongside the IGAD Gender Strategy, we continue to expand opportunities and elevate women’s voices across the IGAD region. On this International Women’s Day, we reaffirm our commitment to a future where women lead and thrive.

📍Bridging Migration, Displacement, and Climate Mobility policies in South Sudan | 2 – 4 March 2026 In Juba, South Sudan, the @IGADsecretariat is convening a Joint National Coordination Meeting of the National Technical Committee on Durable Solutions (NTC-DS) and the National Coordination Mechanism (NCM) on Migration The meeting aims to strengthen national coordination, policy coherence, and institutional collaboration between the NTC and NCM to address displacement, migration, and climate-induced mobility through integrated durable solutions and migration governance approaches. Addressing the meeting, the IGAD Head of Mission to South Sudan Dr. @Vickyanib01 emphasized that mixed migration flows, protracted displacement situations, climate mobility and the pressures on host communities require comprehensive, inclusive, and forward-looking approaches. #IGADSupportPlatform #MoDIAC

Rebuilds! vulnerable migrants, victims of human trafficking & smuggling. This Society needs more funding 4 a great job they are doing.

The Learning Mission of #IGAD & #EAC Member States with Social Partners to Government of #Phillippines, Departments for #Labour & #Employment & Department for #Migrant Workers is on-going. We are studying best practices of Labour Migration #Governance on Land and #Sea that has placed the Phillippines as Best Model Country in the Sector of Labour Migrayion Governance globally. The laws, regulations, policies, strategirs, programs, expertise, functional institutions and state budgets enable an effective governance of the sector in compliance with International Labour Standards.

Shared investment can power shared peace. Yesterday, I represented H.E. @DrWorkneh at a Ministerial Briefing on the Daua River Basin Development Initiative at @ForeignOfficeKE offices, covering the Mandera Triangle linking Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia. Chaired by H.E. @MusaliaMudavadi, the meeting brought together Mandera County leaders led by Governor @MohamedAKhalif and senior government officials to advance plans for the proposed Daua River Dam set to become Kenya’s second-largest dam strengthening food security, livelihoods and regional resilience for over 3 million people across this drought-prone region.

IGAD Special Envoy Presents Credentials and Engages Partners in Juba H.E. Moussa Djama, IGAD Special Envoy for the Republic of South Sudan, today presented his credentials to H.E. Monday Semaya Kumba, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Ambassador Djama thanked the Government of the Republic of South Sudan for the warm reception and reaffirmed IGAD’s commitment to working in close partnership with national authorities and stakeholders to advance peace and stability. Minister Kumba welcomed the Special Envoy, congratulated him on his timely appointment, and assured him of the Government’s full support in the discharge of his mandate. Following the presentation of credentials, the Special Envoy met with IGAD Ambassadors based in Juba, the Interim Chair of the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission, the Chair of the Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangement Monitoring and Verification Mechanism, and the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission to South Sudan. Today, I’m celebrating my PhD graduation. It has been a long and challenging journey, filled with moments of doubt, growth, and perseverance, but also deeply rewarding. I’m truly grateful to everyone who supported and believed in me along the way. Alhamdulillah for making it to the finish line.

Today marks a proud and historic moment for Somalia and IGAD. I warmly congratulate the Federal Parliament of Somalia on ratifying the IGAD Treaty—reaffirming Somalia’s strong commitment to regional integration and cooperation. Kenya Methodist University(@kemukenya) and Marsabit County Teaching & Referral Hospital (MCTRH) have formalized a strategic partnership through an MoU to strengthen clinical training, professional development, and collaborative healthcare practice.

The MoU signing was overseen by MCTRH CEO Mr. Kussu Abduba, alongside members of the hospital’s senior leadership.

The partnership will initially support clinical training for KeMU students pursuing BSc Medical Laboratory Sciences and BSc Nursing, with placements commencing this month.

Under the partnership, MCTRH is accredited as a clinical training site for KeMU, enabling students to gain hands-on experience in a real-world healthcare setting.
