The 39th @_AfricanUnion Summit was not just another assignment, it was a reminder of why we do what we do. From high-level plenaries with Heads of State and Government, to bilateral diplomacy on the margins, to strategic conversations on water security and regional peace. Every moment carried the weight of our region’s future. Behind every handshake, every speech, every closed-door meeting, there was one constant mission: to ensure @IGADsecretariat's voice is present, clear and consequential in the rooms where Africa’s direction is shaped. It is one thing to witness diplomacy unfold, It is another to document it in real time, to translate policy into story, strategy into narrative and leadership into legacy. Serving under H.E. @DrWorkneh means documenting a leadership that believes deeply in regional solidarity, collective responsibility and Africa-driven solutions. The pace is relentless. The stakes are high. But so is the purpose. The #AUSummit was not just a gathering of leaders, it was a convergence of vision, responsibility, and continental ambition. And through the lens, through the words, through the stories we share, we amplify our work beyond the conference halls to reach the people it ultimately serves. Because the region and Africa’s story is not told by accident. It is told with intention. #IGADAtAUSummit #IGADAt40

On behalf of the IGAD Executive Secretary, H.E. @DrWorkneh, #IGAD Deputy Executive Secretary, H.E. Mohamed Abdi Ware, held discussions in Nairobi, #Kenya, with experts from IDDRSI and @IGAD_CPALD. Drought continues to severely impact communities across the IGAD region, particularly pastoralists and small-scale farmers. The discussions focused on advancing sustainable, science-driven solutions, placing pastoralism and livestock development at the center of the food security agenda. IGAD remains committed to strengthening resilience and supporting communities affected by climate-related challenges. #RisingWithIGAD #OneRegionOneFuture

Glad to have extensive discussions in Nairobi, Kenya, with scientists from The IGAD Drought Disaster Resilience and Sustainability Initiative (IDDRSI) and The IGAD Centre for Pastoral Areas and Livestock Development (ICPALD to address ways of addressing this issue by putting Pastoralism and animal husbandry in general at the center of the food security agenda.

Today, on #InternationalWomensDay, I find myself reflecting on the life of a remarkable woman who profoundly shaped my journey. While the world celebrates the strength, resilience and impact of women today, my heart is especially drawn to honoring one woman whose influence on my life will never fade. She was more than just the mother of my cousins to me. She became a mentor, a guide, and in many ways, a mother figure. She welcomed me into her home, believed in me, and nurtured me at a time when I truly needed direction. Her kindness was quiet, but her impact was immense. There was a moment in my life when I had given up on school. I had made up my mind that I would not go back. Many people may not realize how fragile that moment was, how easily my path could have taken a different direction. But she saw something in me that I could not see in myself at the time. With patience, calm encouragement, and genuine belief in my potential, she motivated me to return to school. What may have seemed like a small conversation or a simple push from her changed the trajectory of my life. That one act of encouragement contributed greatly to the person I am today. The opportunities I have had, the knowledge I gained, and the path I walk now are all, in some way, connected to that moment when she believed in me enough to push me forward. She also instilled in me values that continue to guide me every day, patience, perseverance, humility, and strength in the face of challenges. These were not just words she spoke; they were values she lived by and passed on through her actions. Today, as the world celebrates women and their incredible contributions to our lives and communities, I dedicate this International Women’s Day to her memory. She represents the kind of woman whose influence may not always be loudly recognized, but whose impact is deeply felt in the lives she touched. I carry immense respect and gratitude for her. The best way I can honor her legacy is by living the values she taught me and continuing to walk the path she encouraged me to pursue. Rest in peace, Mum. Your impact lives on. 🌹

My dad speaking at my mum’s burial last Wednesday. He is the kind of man who always shows up for people, especially when they need him most. We may not have everything in this world, but I know I have a true friend in my dad. His life, his strength and the way he loves others are things I carry with me every single day.

🧒 Advancing Research to Prevent Child Wasting in the IGAD Region The Intergovernmental Authority on Development Centre of Excellence in Nutrition (ICEN) released new research examining the body composition outcomes of children treated for Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) and its implications for policy and practice. The study shows that while treatment supports survival and weight recovery, long-term recovery of lean body mass may remain incomplete, highlighting the need for stronger prevention strategies and improved nutrition interventions. By strengthening research and evidence, IGAD continues to support policies that prevent child wasting and promote healthier growth and development across the region. ✨ Evidence-driven action is key to ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive.
