GCPD attended today’s State of the Cities event hosted by the @LaPorteChamber where local leaders shared a strong, unified focus on coastal resilience and long-term community investment. From City of Morgan's Point, Texas: Mayor Tim Harris reminded us we’ve “gotta be ready for storms that impact us” and reinforced that coastal resilience planning remains a top priority moving forward. At City Of La Porte: Mayor Rick Helton highlighted their continued commitment to the community, with a focus on enhancing quality of life for generations to come. These conversations underscore the importance of the Coastal Texas Project—a transformational effort to reduce storm surge risk and protect communities, industry, and environment across the Texas coast. #coastaltexasproject

Had a great time attending the @PortBureau Commerce Club Luncheon on March 12! The panel of cybersecurity experts offered valuable insights on emerging cyber threats, protecting port and maritime infrastructure, and navigating new U.S. Coast Guard cybersecurity regulations. A truly impactful discussion for our region’s future.

We were proud to attend today’s luncheon, where @HouWilderness convened a Regional Ports table bringing together leaders from ports and coastal agencies across our region. The event honored the incredible work of landscape architects who have championed native vegetation and strengthened our natural environment for more than 40 years.

#DidYouKnow? Galveston Bay is the 7th largest estuary in the U.S., and that's not the only critical national asset this region boasts environmentally. ✅ Jocelyn Nungaray National Wildlife Refuge: 39,000 of irreplaceable coastal marshland in Anahuac that is critical for migratory birds, waterfowl, and other species. In 2025, it was renamed to honor 12‑year‑old Jocelyn Nungaray, a Houston child who loved animals and nature, and was tragically killed in 2024. ✅Galveston National Laboratory: this lab was selected by the National Institute of Health as one of only two national BSL‑4 biocontainment labs built to strengthen U.S. defenses against bioterrorism and emerging disease threats. The facility is the world’s largest academic BSL‑4 lab, making it a major global hub for infectious disease research. ✅NOAA Fort Crockett: a center for marine research innovations, including satellite‑based sea turtle tracking, habitat mapping, and testing of bycatch‑reduction technologies—advancing conservation nationwide. ✅Galveston Bay: one of the most biologically productive estuaries in America, supporting major fisheries for shrimp, oysters, blue crabs, and finfish. Freshwater feeding the bay drains from a watershed that stretches north past Dallas–Fort Worth, making Galveston Bay central to water dynamics across much of the state of Texas.
