Yesterday, the Senate delivered a long-overdue victory for the families of Holocaust victims by passing a version of the HEAR Act, which helps families secure restitution for stolen works of art. I was proud to introduce the original version of the HEAR Act in 2016. It helps right a terrible injustice and signals that America will continue to root out every noxious vestige of the Nazi regime. I will continue to fight to bring peace and justice to these families.

As we observe solemn week of Holocaust Remembrance, we honor the memory of the six million Jews and millions of others murdered by the Nazis and their collaborators. We stand in solidarity with survivors, their families, and all who carry the scars of that unimaginable evil. I will never forget my visit to the Warsaw Ghetto and Auschwitz. Walking through those grounds—seeing the gas chambers, the piles of shoes, eyeglasses, and personal belongings—left a profound and lasting impact on me. It was a visceral reminder of human’s capacity for evil, and of our duty to confront such hatred and darkness. We must ensure “Never Again” is not just words, but a guiding principle.

The U.S. Navy apparently withdrew the Fifth Fleet from Bahrain, at the northern end of the Gulf, before the war, and has since been forced to withdraw over a thousand kilometers away from the Iranian shore for fear of attack. It’s reasonable to believe that the damage done to the USS Gerald Ford was caused by missile strikes, as opposed to a supposed “laundry fire.” The Navy doesn’t want to risk a few million-dollar missiles taking out a $15 billion aircraft carrier with all of its planes. What’s certain is that the US Government has a big problem. It looks like a giant paper tiger that doesn’t dare deploy its high-tech Navy near a hostile shore. What, then, is the good of a navy? The US government has already lost this war. It’s punched a tar baby and can’t withdraw its fist. It’s further bankrupting itself, precipitating the Greater Depression, risking WW3, and destroying its moral standing.
