“You can’t be America First and China-funded at the same time. Pick a side.” - @AmyKremer , Chairwoman, Humans First While the globalist wing of the AI industry argues regulation should be avoided in order to “beat China” in the AI race, one major question remains… If the threat from China is truly that serious, why are semiconductor exports still flowing to the very adversary they claim we’re competing against? Americans deserve answers! Follow for updates on AI policy, national security, and the future of emerging technology.

We need leaders in the admin, and in the conservative movement, to push on this vision of a safe, secure and free future, with the time and ability to at the very least, slow down the most dangerous parts of our transition.

Many in AI Safety have consistently be down on Trump. I have been disappointed by the role of a16z etc within this admin. But if anyone has the temperament and ability to pull off such a deal, it is this admin

The admins recent shift, and trip to China, feels like a great time to reup my paper "The Manhattan Trap". If the US is clear eyed about wanting to protect American national security, it must realise that racing to superintelligence is a suicide race.

Amy Kremer from Humans First just told me he had met with her and a group of bereaved parents for an hour a few weeks back - pretty long meeting. The takeaway for me is he’s hearing out (at least some) ai safety advocates, particularly on these child safety issues. Tides turning?

@neil_chilson That means there are strong non-paternalistic reasons to regulate AI models. That doesn't imply that having a government agency pre-approve AI model deployments is a good regulatory strategy, but it does call for some policy intervention.

I still think defining a process to create red lines over automated AI R&D remains one of the most urgent policy design gaps as we learn more about what automated AI R&D may look like

@HaydnBelfield I think Parfit would be one of the last philosophers to endorse giving others less moral consideration to the degree to which they're less connected to you (psychologically or otherwise)!

"America First doesn’t mean putting corporations first. It doesn’t mean putting Silicon Valley first. It means putting you first. The factory worker. The teacher. The veteran. The parent sitting up at night worried about what their kid is seeing on a screen. You come first."

Not using AI for the problems AI creates is "reverse d/acc." If AI-provided labor is speeding everything up, choosing not to use it for policy, safety, security, adaptation, and resilience means you're slowing down the defensive side.

@neil_chilson The end result of this lobbying has been blue state legislation passing and red state legislation defeated, often by leadership refusing to even hear the legislation

The national opposition to data centers speaks to more than just their size. More than their energy use. It’s the physical manifestation of the anxiety & distrust we feel twd Big Tech Where else can we protest but our own towns? What else can we do when our leaders won’t listen?
More Perfect Union@MorePerfectUS

Kevin O'Leary's massive data center was approved by a county commission in Utah last night. At 40,000 acres, it would be 2.5x the size of Manhattan. The commission approved the proposal despite opposition from hundreds of locals.
