NIH-funded HIS-CRT trial is almost complete, 112 of 120 patients enrolled, now only enrolling female patients to enrich the cohort! @rodericktung clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT05265…

@CMichaelGibson Sure, restrict the hours that students and housestaff can spend taking care of sick patients. Now cut back the number of years they spend learning. Don't know when they will do any academic work. I would call it being a hemidoc and giving the MD title in lower case only (md).

A troubling article by my favorite New York times author. It will change the way I look at some of my sickest patients.

@KristerKauppi @agingdoc1 @FrontAging I think that to be fair, the last sentence needs an additional phrase to modify it and specify that the most robust evidence is in mice. In that case, as an experienced clinical trialist, I know I would have trouble recruiting patients.

It's an interesting result but I would argue that depending on how the question is asked we can get a bit different answers here. When I checked the question in the study then I think there is quite good potential in improving it. Here is the question around Rapamycin which was asked: "Rapamycin is a drug used to suppress the immune system in organ transplants, but also a potential drug for improving general health. Scientific studies on rapamycin have largely been conducted in mice. Research indicates that rapamycin delays or prevents dementia, hearing loss, heart muscle disease, osteoporosis, and more age-related diseases. For example, administering rapamycin led to a 26% lifespan extension in mice. This is more than with metformin. However, rapamycin does have side effects. It is often associated with oral mucosal inflammation, gastrointestinal complaints, and a weakened immune system. In addition, rapamycin also leads in some cases to too much cholesterol in the blood, rashes and eczema. Despite the risk of side effects, would you be willing to start taking rapamycin (one pill a week) if it gives health- and life-expectancy-related benefits?"

@GLamasMD Buddy and Rocky—what a duo! 🐾 One’s the charming troublemaker, and the other’s the sweet sidekick just rolling with it. 😜 Mutts really are the best—full of personality and love! Can’t imagine life without them. So, what’s next, a doggy detective agency? 🕵️♂️🐕

@CMichaelGibson Work-life balance emphasis means he doesn't care about you as much as the other guy. He will sign out to whoever's on and delay coming in if you're in trouble. For one, medicine is a job, for the other It is a calling. But I am a dinosaur.
