@MomsInBitcoin1 @BitPaine All addresses with known public keys are vulnerable. That's all P2PK and taproot addresses, and all other addresses that have already been spent from

10M??? You are saying there are 10 million, half the total supply in vulnerable wallets? Or that all the ibit peeps will sell? Cause a couple million are stolen and circulated back into the ecosystem. They are not our wallets. Bitcoin is designed to be permissionless. If its not.... all value in owning it is lost regardless.

I find it really funny that people are raging against the proposal to freeze quantum vulnerable addresses. You’re tilting at windmills, friend. If a QC materializes then It’s going to happen. You can’t stop it. Basic game theory. The fork without the giant quantum bonanza is the more valuable fork, and it is the one that will be chosen by capital, and therefore miners. Your little node and your 2 $BTC on a Seedsigner are very much irrelevant. $MSTR, $IBIT, $MSBT et al. will signal before any hardfork is activated and all intelligent capital will follow them. 10M+ quantum-vulnerable $BTC will hit the market in a day. And it will be ever so over for you. I’m sorry. You may not like this. But it’s inevitable. Cry about it.

@Strike_Attack @BitPaine If a quantum computer breaks bitcoin's security then the property rights of people still using vulnerable addresses have already been lost whether the coins are frozen or not

I think people are raging at the potential precedent freezing sets and the principle upon which property ownership sits. #Bitcoin was created for the people, whether or not you hold #Bitcoin dust or boulders, you get treated the same. BIP361 and freezing assets undermines the founding ethos. Re-tweet if you agree.

"allow them to be spent IF they [prove] they own [the] seed phrase [but] not all wallets [...] are hierarchical deterministic wallets" Both this blog post and the corresponding BIP appear to assume that HD wallets necessarily have a seed phrase. But Core creates HD wallets that have no seed phrase. Could those kinds of wallets be recovered using ZK proof of knowing the xprv? Or is there something particular about seed phrases?

I bet if @coinbase got hacked and a million bitcoin were stolen, @lopp would be in favor of freezing those coins.

You validate before pruning. You can't validate after pruning. For example, if you delete the op_return data, there's no way you can check that the txid is correct, and so there's no way to check that the tx was included in a block So why bother deleting just the op_return data? You may as well prune the whole block at that point

One big missing link in the BIP110 debate is the fact that witness data and OP_RETURN data are technically prunable and don't necessarily have to be part of the UTXO set. I haven't been satisfied with explanations of this from either side so I did a deep dive with my AI and finally got some satisfying answers which I'll detail in this thread. I still think forking is idiotic and damaging and every arguement I've heard for it is childish. However - to be fair to the debate - it's currently not possible to selectively prune unwanted with Bitcoin Core. Here's why — with the actual source code. 🧵

@rodarmor It tells me breaking RSA 8192 would take about 10 times more logical qubits than ECC 256

@gm7t2 Ask gemini the size of the quantum computer which would be needed to factor ECC 256 vs RSA 8192.

Maybe our quantum strategy should be RSA 8192 🤔

@mrjberlin @petrroyce @Rainmaker1973 Since "down" is defined to mean "towards the center of mass of the earth", neither of those planes have their upside (top) facing down (towards the earth) One of the planes is only "upside down" if you think that "down" is another word for "south". It isn't

@ClevenDaClemen @_amazinghuh_ @Smolinho1 @nocomment13831 @RealPostFolder It makes no sense to have anything after the "..." "0.999..." means the 9's continue forever forever "0.000...1" doesn't mean anything. It hints at meaning "infinitely many 0's followed by a 1" but the 0's go on forever. They can't be followed by anything because they don't end

Recently people have been debating "spam" in Bitcoin, arguing over which transactions or outputs count as spam. Really though, it's all spam. Everything except the transactions where I get more bitcoins. Those are important data. 2/9

@nomorelabs I minted 10 comrades. The first 4 took about an hour to arrive and the other 6 came after about 15 hours Not a great experience, but at least they all came in the end

> seems ppl take issue with illegal data stored on btc via op return. The only data stored on bitcoin is transactional data, to view it as anything else requires a 3rd party program that has nothing to do with bitcoin, there's also alot of illegal data stored on the internet too, but you still use it right? > Is it be true to say that it’s less likely to occur if it can only happen via slipstream etc vs forwarded p2p to any miner No, data has been embedded into transactions since satoshi dice in 2011.

Reminder: The social contract wasn't broken by Core, it was broken in February 2024 when MARA launched Slipstream. Slipstream is a service to mine any consensus valid transaction for the right fee, bypassing normal mempool policy entirely. This contract was technically enforced by mempool filters like the 83-byte OP_RETURN limit, however Mara’s Slipstream proved that these filters were just "gentlemen's agreements" that large miners could bypass at will. Core's op return changes 20 months later weren't "enabling spam", they were acknowledging this broken contract and that the filter had already failed because you can't enforce gentlemen's agreements when miners are openly advertising they'll ignore them. These changes once again even the playing field for those wanting to get their transactions mined. It's harm reduction, plain and simple.

I know that getting as much Magic Eden off-chain data out before their shutdown is on everyone's top of mind, so I took the initiative to extract that data. Here I present the final data dump of all Magic Eden collection and attribute data: github.com/summraznboi/ma… Good luck!
