“Sometimes we skipped meals because we had nothing to give our children.” – Fadumo Adan Issack For Fadumo Adan Issack, a 38-year-old mother of six, life changed completely because of the prolonged drought in Somalia. Originally from Sakow, nearly 160km from Diinsor, Fadumo and her family depended on farming and livestock for survival. They cultivated maize, beans, and sorghum and owned six cows that supported their daily life. But after four consecutive seasons without rain, everything was lost. “Our cows died because there was no water and no pasture. We could no longer grow crops, and life became impossible,” Fadumo recalls. Unable to feed their children, Fadumo and her husband made the painful decision to leave their home in search of survival. With no transport available, the family walked for days under the scorching sun, carrying their children on foot until they reached Soko Yarey IDP Camp in Diinsor. For the past two years, the camp has become their home. Through the #WFP Relief Programme, Fadumo was among the vulnerable families supported with monthly cash assistance of $55 for four months. The support helped her buy food, water, pay debts, and keep her children in school. “Water was very difficult to access. We walked long distances, and one jerrycan cost $0.25,” she says. Today, Fadumo says life has started to improve. “Now my children can eat three meals a day without skipping meals. Thanks for the support, because it came when we needed it most. Without it, I don’t know what our lives would look like.” Through timely humanitarian assistance, vulnerable families like Fadumo’s are regaining hope and dignity amidst the ongoing drought crisis. We thank @WFPSomalia for their continued support in assisting vulnerable communities affected by drought. #CashAssistance #DroughtResponse #HumanitarianAction #Somalia

2019–2026: Recurrent droughts and floods in Somalia have driven displacement, eroded livelihoods, and worsened food insecurity-shaping IPC trends nationwide. Climate shocks continue to fuel vulnerability. We must break this cycle by building community resilience.

Millions of people are facing severe hunger, water shortages, displacement, and rising humanitarian needs across the country. According to the latest OCHA Somalia Drought Situation Report, at least 𝟐 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 are projected to face acute hunger, 𝟏.𝟖 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧 are at risk of acute malnutrition, and over 𝟓𝟎𝟎,𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 have been displaced by the drought crisis. Despite growing needs, humanitarian funding remains critically low, limiting life-saving assistance for vulnerable communities. @gredosom continues to support affected communities through water access, nutrition, health, and cash assistance interventions — but sustained support is urgently needed. #DroughtResponse #Somalia #HumanitarianAction #FoodSecurity #WASH

Under the #DANIDA_SPA Programme in partnership with @SaveChildrenSO and support from @DanishMFA, GREDO successfully facilitated a two-day multi-stakeholder dialogue in Baidoa, bringing together Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), government authorities, and humanitarian partners to strengthen coordination and collaboration in humanitarian response efforts. The dialogue promoted inclusive participation, joint planning, and stronger partnerships among key stakeholders working to support vulnerable communities across Southwest Somalia. This engagement forms part of ongoing efforts to improve collective response mechanisms and ensure more effective, accountable, and community-centered service delivery.
