Ok. Here goes. Surgical/Recovery suits, my honest opinion. Each dog is an individual and may have different needs. Always keep a close watch as additional protection such as a lamp shade/cone of shame may also be required. My reviews are based on a 123 lb double coated, GSD shaped dog (Grimlin). T-shirts Garm never wore Recovery suits as none fit him. XXXL T-shirts from Walmart were our go to for him. Pros Inexpensive solution Easy to find Fantastic for anything forward of mid-belly, to the neck Cons Not suitable for surgeries like a spay as there is not full coverage lower on the abdomen. How we used em Tie knot on back of shirt at bottom to make it snug/prevent it from sliding up. I prefer thicker T-shirts rather than thin material (like mens undershirts) as it provides more protection and wont stretch as much and pull on their shoulders (it will stay up on the neck). This is Garm after his pexy about 7 years ago wearing his favorite Crabby Bills shirt.
