What exactly is “The Science of Reading?” What misconceptions have you seen or heard? How do they stand in the way of the potential huge gains the SoR offers? How are for profit entities taking advantage of recent interest in the SoR and what harm could that do?

@AOC @AOC Did u know only 35% of US students are reading proficiently? -NAEP'19. Or that 🙍🏼‍♂️are 3x more likely 2 learn 2 read than 🙍🏾‍♂️? And that disparity remains even when controlling for income? We NEED #scienceofreading in schools to ID weak readers by 9. Learn #SOR @reading_league

I am grateful to the RI Librarian's Association for having me as a presenter at yesterday's conference. I was thrilled to hear at the end that several libraries were considering adding decodable texts to their shelves after learning more about Ss w/dyslexia and emergent readers!

Can’t wait to see this documentary and hear from these inspiring parents who demanded action. Parents are important stakeholders in the movement for access to literacy for ALL children.
