Britain’s Oldest Second World War Veteran Dies Aged 109 Born in April 1917 in Ludlow, Shropshire, Mr Frank Chester was employed by HM Customs and Excise before receiving his call-up to serve the nation. He served aboard a corvette escorting Arctic convoys travelling to and from Russia during the conflict. This was considered a highly dangerous mission of the conflict. Frank passed away on Sunday, April 19 at his care home in Malvern, Worcestershire, just nine days after his birthday celebrations. The fact he died in a care home is extremely sad.
