Sene/Paoni 17 THREAD On this day, the memory of the Blessed Aba Gerima of Medra was celebrated. His father was a member of the Roman royal family named Mesphenianus. His mother, Sophania(?), was barren, so she beseeched God through the intercession of the Theotokos. 1/16

@ZecariasG @mannenjalla The Coffee was sold to Eritrea in birr and auctioned in World Market under Eritrean statistics. This is informal and never ratified in agreement; but has allegedly ranked Eritrea as top exporter. I also believe that it is ridiculous since I Eritrea was very beneficial.

Was the coffee for free? If not, then how is that quid pro quo? Also, why pay in coffee when you can pay in currency? Lastly, can you show me any such agreements? You also said EPRDF feared using Assab could be used to punish them. Refusing a free lunch because you are afraid it may be taken away by the party that offered the free lunch is ridiculous.

If only Ethiopia hadn’t rejected the free use of Eritrean ports, so it could invade them and use them for free! Better yet, if Ethiopia had never broken the federal arrangement that disproportionately favoured and annexed Eritrea, it would still be able to use Eritrean ports for free. Even better, if Ethiopia had ever had leaders who prioritized their country over their egos, it would live in peace. This coming market crisis will hurt Ethiopia’s poor excessively, but its government will keep buying weapons, just as all three governments before it did in times of suffering. Nothing changes in what they do, and nothing will change in the results.

@ZecariasG @mannenjalla And another one, he was eager to lobby the world to put sanction on Asmara and wanted to punish Eritrea by taking away the re-export benefit. The two leaders were gambling politics.

@ZecariasG @mannenjalla The benefit of Eritrea was Coffee and commodity re-export while Ethiopian benefit was port access. The EPRDF fear was that developing and wholly using the Assab port could assert dependence on single port which Eritrea could use it to punish by blocking the access anytime.

@gabowduale Hypothetically ,possible. But considering security issue and financial feasibility, it is mostly challenging to do it

Somalia has two permanent rivers Juba and Shabelle with an average 11 months of constant water volume, yet one failed short Deyr season and we declare drought emergency. How about we harvest every water during every flood and also pump water from the river and store that water.

@mannenjalla @ZecariasG It wasn't all free; it was quid pro quo. However, I think it was rejected to prevent it from being used as leverage. Since political tensions were frequent, Ethiopia had no 100% guarantee that it would always be available. Yes, diplomatic benefit was another reason.

@ZecariasG It baffles me how Eritrean gov between 1993-1998 chose to give Ethiopia FREE port access, and it baffles me even more how Ethiopians rejected it and favoured paying $ billions a year to Djibouti port instead.

@Kyn_Okk @ChildOfStThomas @redeemed_zoomer The chronicle was recorded in local language. I doubt the accuracy of the entire conversation, since I read it from a second-hand source cited by Fr. Admasu Djembere. However, the general idea still holds: Rome failed to wrest Ethiopia away from the See of Alexandria.

@Cazonci98 There is no problem with this. Just like my homeland, the country has significant patriotic Muslim population who are ready to defend their land. Islam isn't hated the same way it is hated in the West. You don't need to expect them to be persecuted in a country they're native to
