@BeckBronson62 @amelia_tweetz And irrelevant. We have a much superior work/life balance e.g our excellent paid leave, 40hr work weeks and great worker conditions.

@Garyfurball @amelia_tweetz Compare economic growth since WWII as I stated - not just the past year as you're referencing. The comparison is incredible and undeniable.

Watching the World Cup has me asking questions. Do Europeans get issued 8 weeks of vacation, unlimited airline miles, and a trust fund at birth? Because every match I turn on there are 40,000 fans following their team to a different state or country on a Tuesday afternoon while Americans are hiding in a work bathroom checking scores.

@BeckBronson62 @amelia_tweetz Languished? That’s laughable. The US implemented tarrifs on our economies because our exports into the US were vastly stronger than our imports and Trump is trying to help your economy

@amelia_tweetz Amelia, it's why Europe's economy has languished since WWII and the USA has become a juggernaut. Euro's don't think twice about taking a month+ off from work (and they can!) and touring the US for soccer. I've has two 2 week vacas in 30 yrs of service-no complaints but why US #1

@BryanDe83123592 @lukedsimmons That’s why soccer won’t work in America. The rules are too confusing 🤷🏽‍♂️ We already have enough rules from all the other sports we keep up with and play

@HistoryWJacob If toughness is so important Rugby would be massive in the US. It’s ok for the US not to be interested in football, it’s the biggest most watched sport in the world and played in almost every country. The sport doesn’t need the US, America applied to host it, they wern’t asked by

Okay, since you asked, here’s my American opinion. Soccer will never be as popular in America as football for 3 reasons: 1. The Fake Injuries Players are incentivized to flop because the other team is more likely to get a penalty. In football, it is the opposite. If a player has a real injury, play toughs it out and plays through it, it is seen as heroic. Americans like toughness and grit. 2. Chance Goals Many goals are scored by chance as opposed to skill. The chaos at the net when the ball is near is remarkable. Defenders blocking the goalie’s line of sight. The ball bouncing and ricocheting off of random body parts often determines if the ball goes in the net or out of bounds. In football, there are some elements of chance, but because players are allowed to use their hands, the points are primarily scored based on skill. Less is left to chance. Americans like control. 3. Low Scoring In football, it is still challenging to score, but it happens much more often. Also, every play has a chance for gratification and excitement: a first down, a big catch, a big hit, a sack, an interception, etc American like constant excitement.

@ianmSC What Americans fail to realise is that we Europeans want football (soccer) to be huge in the US

What the Europeans fail to realize about US soccer fans is that even if only 20% of the country follows the sport, that’s roughly 70 million people, or more than the entire population of France or the UK

Is everyone in Europe dehydrated? Nobody carries water bottles. Water is expensive everywhere and not free at most restaurants. Bathrooms are scarce and often cost money to use. My theory is everyone is ok with this bleak situation because they’re all massively dehydrated, rarely pee, and don’t know the glory of what 1+ gallons of water consumed per day feels like to the human body.

Revolutionary golf idea: No more 18 holes. Why not just 1 really long hole. Make it like 7500 yards, par 72. The green is the last 1000 yards of the course.

The paradox of soccer is that there's nonstop action and the clock never stops, and yet it's the most boring sport ever known to mankind.

@kylekirms I see where you’re coming from. One of the issues is soccer, not being contained to one league like NBA, is hard to regulate financially. This has led to super teams. Being able to play more players would further widen the imbalance. Also, the use of subs is a tactic

And now they make a couple substitutions... and the fresh legs come in and are CLEARLY faster than everyone else. Why wouldn't we want to watch the entire game with fresh legs??? Would that not be infinitely more fun?

I know this is a stupid American take... but every time I watch soccer, I cannot figure out the limited substitutions rule. Look how tired these players are. Just let them substitute. Think of how slow basketball would be if the same players had to play 48 minutes straight.

@SmallerFishGAA My friend played for Notts Forest (youth and first team bench no appearances). Outside of pre-season ,GAA train much harder than professional teams on fitness. We also dont yet enforce/value recovery, rest and flexibility enough here.We are over stretched strings waiting to snap
