Only a week to go until my latest @penswordbooks book hits the shelves. Shaping a Nation uncovers the extraordinary influence women have through being the prime movers & shakers in education. I'm awaiting my author copies with excited anticipation! pen-and-sword.co.uk/Shaping-a-Nati…

The ludicrous story about the Iranian "spies" at Faslane. A man and a woman turned up at the front gate and asked the reception booth if they were allowed to go in. They were arrested. That is it. That is all they did. Ridiculous warmongering propaganda.

@ChadB_T_W @CraigMurrayOrg Funnily enough, my dad took us there. We went on the base & I have some ancient b&w photos to prove it. He wanted to see Polaris as he'd worked on the engineering of the turbines. This was in 1963 though. We were on holiday in Ayr, we went for the day. I'm not Iranian 🙋‍♀️

@GaynorHaliday @redrumlisa @lugaricano @mattyglesias Once again, there is no state pension fund. The 'state pension' isn't even technically a pension and is defined as a benefit in law. There is no 'pot' anywhere - no investment fund. How many years you work affects what level of benefit you qualify for.

The UK triple lock is the singlest stupidest policy in the entire Western world, and the most damaging to the future of a country. Of course, it is also untouchable and almost undiscussed in the UK press. @mattyglesias does a big favour to the UK public here.

@redrumlisa @lugaricano @mattyglesias You didn't 'pay into' it. It is a benefit. Triple lock was a good way of raising pensioner income over time but makes no sense as an ad infinitum policy.

So fuel duty is going up 5p in September. They want us to use public transport. Trouble is in places like where I live, the buses stop at 6pm and don't run at all on Sundays. But it's ok. The Londoners who make these decisions have 24 hour, 7 days a week public transport. 🙄🤬

@WhiteHorseFinal @Thecityvent Bolton is under Bolton Council administration. Can't comment about your OL postcode being 20 miles away. Ilkley has a Leeds postcode but is under Bradford MDC. I was merely answering a question about how Haworth could be classed as Bradford 🫠

@GaynorHaliday @Thecityvent Bolton is in Greater Manchester - it's not Manchester. My postcode is OL, but this isn't even close to Oldham (nearly 20 miles away). If we are going to say everywhere is defined by the postcode and modern municipal management we are erasing most local identity.

Ahh yes, the 'least we don't live in Bradford' insult comes out from someone from a London suburb.... Just a few photos of our 'dump' of a city...

@Thecityvent We lost 16 players in the summer & replaced them with mainly rubbish. Last year's team would have slaughtered you, but alas this year's team is heading down One good thing however, we don't live in Bradford, so not everything's bad 😁

@MidfieldGenera2 @jallan_5 @Thecityvent Show me a city that doesn’t have beautiful moorland villages on the outskirts. Just need to add balance, no point pretending Bradford is all Escape to the Country locations when it isn’t.

Every time I get to the barrier at the M6 Toll, the gate just opens and lets me through. I have no recollection of ever setting up an account that makes this happen, and it's quite possible that the previous owner of my car did. I get a cheap thrill from driving through for free.

Tourists in London stroll up to 10 Downing Street to have their photo taken. Does anyone remember doing this? Year unknown.

@bo66ie29 Had my photo taken shaking hands with a policeman outside 10 Downing Street circa 1973 and also sat on one of the stones at Stone Henge in 1974. Everything was accessible then!

@Dhiammara @bo66ie29 I know we were able to stroll up on visit to London in about 1974. Not sure I've any photo evidence though; I'd need to go through a lot of old slides!!

@Richard18719415 @PeteUK7 Unbelievable. It never ceases to amaze me how the Civil/Service, NHS & other Gov’t bodies employ people whose job it is to ‘help’ the public but who cannot speak or understand English well enough to do the job. Meanwhile those who clearly can speak English cannot get a job. Why?

Mum died on Monday. Today she received a £50 civil penalty for not letting DWP know soon enough she was in hospital & had been overpaid £73.90 in allowances. The traumatic experience of hospitalisation & loss of mental capacity was deemed 'not a reasonable excuse'. F this world.

@charlotteukcity Men in Sheds is genuinely life-enhancing for my dad (aged nearly 90). It offered respite when he was a carer, and congenial company now he lives on his own; and if he needs help with anything, his Shed friends are always the first to offer.

1/2 Local to my mum’s house, there is a ‘Men In Sheds’. This is a group of senior men who support each other, share & learn new skills. Well one of the men made a beautiful standing bird table, it took him ages to perfect. He put it outside for sale & my mum walked past &

@charlotteukcity I went to our local Men’s Shed to pick up my husband. As I stepped past a group of men working together in the workshop, a loud, deep voice yelled out, ‘WOMAN’!!! It delighted me that the warning was called. Now I just wait outside…. Sheds should be for men.
