Tomorrow is the 26th anniversary of the Nasdaq’s biggest one-day plunge at the time. On April 14, 2000, the index fell 9.67% in one session. The Nasdaq had started drifting downward after March 10, but it wasn’t until April 14 that the selling really started. It wouldn’t let up. The index lost 33% in just 10 sessions.

This is somewhat misleading. Several acts recorded Springsteen songs, but he didn’t exactly “write for other people” (Possible exceptions — Patti Smith and Gary US Bonds). Contrast that with, say, Prince who both had artists cover his songs (Chaka Khan, Sinead O’Connor) and wrote/gave away songs specifically to other artists (Manic Monday to The Bangles, Sugar Walls to Sheena Easton, The Glamorous Life to Sheila E., whole albums for The Time, etc.).
Eric Alper 🎧@ThatEricAlper

Songs Bruce Springsteen wrote for other people: “Spirit in the Night” and "Blinded by the Light" by Manfred Mann's Earth Band “Fire” by the Pointer Sisters “Light of Day” by The Barbusters (Joan Jett) "Because The Night" by Patti Smith “Pink Cadillac” by Natalie Cole

Final round!! You've all voted, and our bracket of the best Springsteen songs of all time pits "4th of July" against "Incident on 57th." (It seems we've got some serious "Wild, Innocent" fans out there!) So which one are you picking as the champ?

A lot of pundits seem to think we should give nothing to Iran in the negotiations (except a cessation of bombing). That’s not really how negotiations work. What should the U.S. be willing to give Iran as a “win” from these talks?

Let’s see. Since the beginning of major combat operations, the United States Joint Forces destroyed more than 13,000 targets, including: • 80% of Iran's air defense systems — striking more than 1,500 air defense targets • 450+ ballistic missile storage facilities • 801 one-way attack drone storage facilities — all of these systems are gone • 2,000+ command and control nodes destroyed, degrading their ability to target us and friendly forces • 90%+ of Iran's regular fleet sunk — 150 ships at the bottom of the Arabian Gulf, including all major surface combatants; half of the IRGC Navy small attack boats • 700+ strikes against naval mine targets — 95%+ of their naval mines destroyed • ~90% of their weapons factories struck — every factory that produced Shaheed one-way attack drones was struck; every factory that produces the guidance systems that go into those drones was struck • 80%+ of their missile facilities gone, as well as their solid rocket motor production capability • 20+ naval production and fabrication facilities damaged or destroyed • ~80% of Iran's nuclear industrial base hit, further degrading their attempts to attain a nuclear weapon And thanks to OMH their fissile material is buried under rubble and if they try to get to it we can kill them. Definitely not better off
Richard N. Haass@RichardHaass

To paraphrase the question Ronald Reagan asked in 1980, Are we (the US) better off than we were 5 weeks ago when we launched this war of choice vs Iran? Alas, the answer is a resounding "No." open.substack.com/pub/richardhaa…

@JoeSquawk Cherry picking. There was a big surge reopening post-COVID that was global, then Trump’s pal Putin invaded Ukraine. CPI was below 3 when Biden handed off and it’s higher now. Inflation from the war hasn’t really hit yet
