Claiming, as Mark Carney did, that a new global order can be rebuilt from Europe is deeply myopic. The Ukraine proxy war has exposed a longstanding reality: Europe is exiting history. The once-noble vision of European pan-continentalism was sacrificed on the altar of Atlanticism.

Canada has no time for strategic blindness, incoherence & haphazardness, which are patterns that have too often marked & shaped its national trajectory. History does not wait for the weak (and the delusional). 2/2

Delusion. Ideology over realism. Geopolitical & historical illiteracy. Refusal to grasp that the global order is shifting toward multipolarity & away from Western unipolar dominance (European, then American), alongside the erosion of the political West & transatlanticism. 1/2

@dimitrilascaris Israel can accommodate & even strategically benefit from religious (Islamic) fundamentalism. What it sees as the greater strategic challenge is cohesive Arab & other nationalisms, meaning forces able of uniting identity, political power & resources into modern states. 2/2

@dimitrilascaris Few challenges to Israeli ambitions are greater than cohesive nation-states in its wider region, especially those with deep roots, historical legitimacy, strong national identities & large populations. Hence its view of Iranian, Arab & even Turkish nationalisms as obstacles. 1/2

For a long time, I’ve argued that Israel’s goal in Iran is not regime change. Rather, its goal is to turn Iran into a failed state that is incapable of resisting Israeli hegemony. Here’s former Israeli government adviser Daniel Levy saying exactly the same thing. #Iran

It amazes me that Canadians see this as some sort of achievement. The EU is falling into rapid economic decline. It is increasingly militaristic and anti-democratic. It is an abject vassal of Washington. Why is Carney desperate to hitch Canada’s boat to Europe’s titanic?

For the people who will bitch about this: This is a joint effort of Canada with our European countries to support Ukraine. We do this to avoid a bigger, more expensive war. If Ukraine loses to Russia, Russia will target neighbouring countries next - NATO countries. Those countries will call in NATO and Canada will be pulled into an expensive war that will also require us to send troops. We are saving Canadian lives by sending equipment and money instead. If this bothers you, sign up for the military and be ready to deploy to fight Russia.

@clashreport The part about the international order being "rebuilt out of Europe" reflects a striking geopolitical illiteracy & a failure to grasp how the international system is shifting & restructuring toward polycentrism. It may be wiser for economists to avoid venturing into geopolitics.

To clarify: many of us who oppose Carney don't think he's dumb, or even making a mistake We know he's a bright man with a quality education and demonstrated expertise. The issue is that he's using his talents purposefully to hurt 99% of Canadians for the benefit of capitalists

@Scribbleknut @christoaivalis I agree with you. I said he has the "economic expertise". I certainly didn't say he has good economic policies for the vast majority of Canadians, especially working-class ones. I was making a broader point.

@GeoObserverX @christoaivalis no, for many of us, it is his economic POLICIES that as the reason we don't support him. He has the expertise, but as with most people of his wealth bracket, his economic policies are centered around making sure things are good for HIS kind, not the rest of us.
