We said goodbye to Crowtree today, a house we ‘built’ from two fen farm workers cottages and our beautiful home of 20 yrs. A wonderful chapter of our lives. From Sunday we’ll be permanent residents of #Westray in #Orkney and a new and exciting chapter to unfold.
@wildnorfolk@IanGordon805 There was one about 25 years ago just outside Kelling. It was picked up dead the day after. Not sure of the date but very popular bird at the time.
I strolled through the wood pasture at Holkham Park yesterday. I couldn't quite put my finger on why, but it wasn't the usual uplifting experience. Even the calls of the Nuthatches seemed imbued with a sense of panic.
This handsome beast has taken up residence in my garden over the last few days, at the expense of my usual Blackbirds which are chased off at every opportunity!
A visit to a local sewage outfall today (Northampton) gave at least 45 ChiffChaff, 3 putative Sibe ChiffChaff, Green Sands, Grey Wags, Kingfisher and WaterRail. And a showy Cettis.
Last day in Norfolk before (hopefully) catching up with the local YBW for 2023🙂. Quick visit to Burnham Norton before trying to find the WTE at Holkham; distant view - and worse pics - in dull, rainy weather. Whooper Swan among 1000's of Pink-feet moving around.
Spent most of today with the Humes Wblr at Brancaster, stunning views at times of such a hardy and tenacious little bird, calling frequently too (to my ears, still can't tell the difference in call btw this and YBW!). Definitely 'greyer' than the bird I saw initially at Mary's🙂
A photo of the Yellow-browed Warbler that was showing well this afternoon in the hedge and brambles along Mary's lane, Summer Leys. Also a juv Gt Northern Diver on Mary’s Lake. #Northantsbirds

Thanks to photos from Richard Patient, Ian Dawson & Matthew Rodgers, it has been possible to study the feather detail of the flanks, scapulars & wing coverts of @GrafhamWater1 Green-winged Teal and these details enable the bird to be aged as a 1st-calendar year
