Never believe anything you hear from the Institute of Economic Affairs. Taxes do not pay for the NHS, the social insurance reimbursement system still requires state funding and, because of admin costs, the French system costs 20% more per capita than the NHS. All wrong.

The NHS isn't free - it's paid for by taxpayers. Meanwhile, countries like France and the Netherlands use social insurance models, spend comparable amounts and outperform the UK on many health outcomes. This should be about results, not dogma.

It's a preventable crisis rather than rational planning which will remove people from private transportation. Whereas many thousands of vehicles don't belong on our roads at all, and public transport is abysmal, the usual howls of the right will conflate driving with 'freedom'.
