📝Another Traitor📝 Context is everything >>> Ukrainian media are actively spreading a story about a "valuable defector" — a resident of Novosibirsk Miroslav Simonov, who voluntarily surrendered and allegedly passed on very valuable data, as he served in the drone systems center "Rubikon". The picture is clear: a specialist from a renowned UAV unit is an ideal propaganda storyline. 🖍However, the real biography of the subject looks much more prosaic. He was in "Rubikon" for only a couple of months, unable to learn or discover anything valuable, after which he was transferred to the 1st Tank Army. There he went AWOL, hid for seven months, was detained, and sent to an assault unit. From there, Simonov fled to the other side. That is, there was no talk of competent combat experience or an ideological desire to help the enemy from the very beginning. 🚩The story of a "valuable specialist" is needed by Kyiv to create a media victory and demonstrate allegedly successful recruitment work. We have seen such stories before: loud interviews, beautiful headlines, and then a quiet disappearance from the information field. After that, the fate of the traitors ceases to interest anyone except Russian competent authorities. 📌Because the price of such a choice is well known. It's enough to recall the story of Maksym Kuzmynov — who stole a Mi-8 and was ultimately found dead in an unmarked grave in southern Spain. No "new life", only oblivion.

In Kyiv for @thetimes, I spoke to a Russian drone operator who walked six miles through a battlefield to defect to Ukraine. Not just any soldier — a member of Russia’s elite Rubicon drone unit. For weeks, he had been secretly talking to Ukrainian intelligence. 🧵 1/

No, I hope more people see it, I hope this way it eventually gives President Putin no room but to finally act. Pressure from all sides, most Russians see this and feel nothing but want Putin to wipe the center of Kiev. It indirectly grows support for the Russian MoD.
Oliver Alexander@OAlexanderDK

These attacks will force Russia to divert even more of its already overstretched air defenses to Moscow, all to keep the war out of sight and out of mind for the elites. As that happens, airspace near the front will become increasingly porous.

George H.W. Bush kept his assets in a blind trust, as did Bill Clinton. Neither Obama nor Biden traded stocks or bonds while in office. 3,700 trades is probably more than all the trades of all the presidents until now. And he is trading stocks that are affected by his decisions. A walking conflict of interest, at the least, and perhaps insider trading. Just as members of Congress should not be able to trade stocks, so too the president. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

I can’t stop thinking about this post. If you do one thing today, I encourage you to give it a thoughtful, thorough read… And then commit to never living your life this way. Life has wasted success on the people described in this post. It really is completely pathetic. They say that comparison is the thief of joy - look no further than this post for validation it is indeed true. On their deathbed they will realize they have lived their life completely wrong. Don’t let it be you.
Deedy@deedydas

The vibes in SF feel pretty frenetic right now. The divide in outcomes is the worst I've ever seen. Over the last 5yrs, a group of ~10k people - employees at Anthropic, OpenAI, xAI, Nvidia, Meta TBD, founders - have hit retirement wealth of well above $20M (back of the envelope AI estimation). Everyone outside that group feels like they can work their well-paying (but <$500k) job for their whole life and never get there. Worse yet, layoffs are in full swing. Many software engineers feel like their life's skill is no longer useful. The day to day role of most jobs has changed overnight with AI. As a result, 1. The corporate ladder looks like the wrong building to climb. Everyone's trying to align with a new set of career "paths": should I be a founder? Is it too late to join Anthropic / OpenAI? should I get into AI? what company stock will 10x next? People are demanding higher salaries and switching jobs more and more. 2. There’s a deep malaise about work (and its future). Why even work at all for “peanuts”? Will my job even exist in a few years? Many feel helpless. You hear the “permanent underclass” conversation a lot, esp from young people. It's hard to focus on doing good work when you think "man, if I joined Anthropic 2yrs ago, I could retire" 3. The mid to late middle managers feel paralyzed. Many have families and don't feel like they have the energy or network to just "start a company". They don't particularly have any AI skills. They see the writing on the wall: middle management is being hollowed out in many companies. 4. The rich aren’t particularly happy either. No one is shedding tears for them (and rightfully so). But those who have "made it" experience a profound lack of purpose too. Some have gone from <$150k to >$50M in a few years with no ramp. It flips your life plans upside down. For some, comparison is the thief of joy. For some, they escape to NYC to "live life". For others still, they start companies "just cuz", often to win status points. They never imagined that by age 30, they'd be set. I once asked a post-economic founder friend why they didn't just sell the co and they said "and do what? right now, everyone wants to talk to me. if i sell, I will only have money." I understand that many reading this scoff at the champagne problems of the valley. Society is warped in this tech bubble. What is often well-off anywhere else in the world is bang average here. Unlike many other places, tenure, intelligence and hard work can be loosely correlated with outcomes in the Bay. Living through a societally transformative gold rush in that environment can be paralyzing. "Am I in the right place? Should I move? Is there time still left? Am I gonna make it?" It psychologically torments many who have moved here in search of "success". Ironically, a frequent side effect of this torment is to spin up the very products making everyone rich in hopes that you too can vibecode your path to economic enlightenment.

Russia is changing its sabotage tactics in Europe — Poland raises the alarm According to Associated Press, Russian intelligence services are moving away from random online recruits and shifting to professional sabotage groups. Polish officials say Moscow is now relying on organized crime, former military personnel, police officers, and mercenaries. The operations include arson, sabotage, attacks on railways, and information warfare. Since the start of the war against Ukraine, more than 150 such incidents linked to Russia have been recorded across Europe. Poland’s counterintelligence says that in 2024–2025 alone it has opened as many espionage cases as in all the decades since the collapse of the USSR. Poland remains one of the main targets — as a key hub for military aid to Ukraine.

BREAKING: Several whistleblowers say that Axios coordinated news with market insiders, leaking CME order information via phone calls up to 30 minutes before market open and close prints. Crude oil short positions were also taken just before today's Axios report on a "US-Iran deal" and "14-point deal," gaining substantially as oil dropped sharply on the news. Iranian political analyst Mohammad Marandi also says Trump, Witkoff, Kushner, and their close associates profited heavily in the past hours from fake news provided to Axios.
