BREAKING: Democratic star Congressman Jamie Raskin brings down the hammer and demands that Donald Trump's Cabinet nominees undergo FBI vetting — a bare minimum that we should all support. "While I understand the Trump-Vance Transition has reached an agreement with the Department of Justice that makes it possible for the FBI to conduct background checks, it remains unclear whether the Transition will require nominees to submit to them," Raskin wrote in a letter. "Given this muddled record, I urge you to clearly and unequivocally commit to requiring that all nominees undergo FBI background checks and submit to vetting before receiving access to classified information," he added. Raskin wrote the letter after the Trump team floated the patently absurd idea of using third party firms to do the background checks, a dangerous break from protocol. Raskin wants "clear assurance" that the FBI will perform the background checks and raised concerns about some of the nominees refusing to engage in a "standard practice across administrations." Raskin also raised concerns about reports that Trump aide Boris Epshteyn has been taking bribes as high as $100,000 from potential nominees to promote their case to Trump. "This is precisely the type of permissive environment in which individuals with undisclosed and unvetted security vulnerabilities can engage in nefarious conduct that could risk American security," Raskin wrote. Lithuanian athlete Körnelija Düdaitė was disqualified at the World Fitness Championship in Hungary for wearing a T-shirt saying "Make Russia small again." The whole Lithuanian team resigned with her in protest. The championship, held in Budapest, featured a Russian team. Russians were supposed to be represented as neutral athletes but the announcer referred to them as Russians, and they wore T-shirts with their country's name. In protest, Körnelija wore a t-shirt with the slogan "Make Russia small again." "This t-shirt shows which country I support... First and foremost, I am a citizen, and only then an athlete," Düdaitė expressed her position. The organizers demanded that she remove the t-shirt and delete all photos with it, claiming it offended Russians. Düdaitė refused, after which she was disqualified. "They said my participation insults the Russians," she wrote. "I hope Ukraine wins and really insults them." Later, Düdaitė's decision was supported by the national federation – all Lithuanian athletes (28 in total) withdrew from the competition.
