@SyrianLib @gutista02 Fine but I don’t see how portraying Syria as a failed state to Egyptians or actively working towards a failed Syria helps them avoid that timeline. The economics are kind of locked in. If the argument is they’re paranoid and irrational then discussing motives is kind of moot.

This is the type o's statement you make when basically nothing of value got done this entire trip. It doesn't look like Syria's effort to fix Egypt's attitude toward it have resulted on anything.

@SyrianLib @gutista02 if you make the average Egyptian choose they’d still choose Egypt over a realistic 2040 Syria, as bad as Egypt currently is. The overly optimistic visions for Syria only exist in the minds of diaspora Syrians. Most Egyptians I speak to recognize the long road ahead of Syria.

@GhalebHabian @gutista02 Remember, the entire Arab Spring was never an internally motivated movement; Egypt and Syria (and most of the ME) were very directly inspired and reacting to the Tunisian dictatorship falling!

@SyrianLib @gutista02 Well that’s kind of my point. Egypt implodes quickly with a floating currency and no regular foreign cash infusions. Whatever they might do to undermine Syria doesn’t change that fundamental economic fact.

@gutista02 Yeah, Syria already has the task of rebuilding and a hostile Israel on its doorstep; it can't afford to have bad relations with anyone, not even old enemies like Iran and Russia. Egypt's feelings and paranoia are weird, and IDK if there is anything that can be done about it, TBH.
