All that said, modern results should be compared to modern day performances, you can't compare across centuries, it's just ridiculous, ok bye!

I call BS, too bad inflation is never counted for, Kasparov & Karpov performances are WAY more impressive than modern results. Not to mention Fischer's superb Candidates run ( which is best EVER). Do better. chess.com/article/view/t…

It's very rare that mother Nagalakshmi can come to the official hotel and drop her daughter and go back home! This is exactly what happened at the @Chennai_GM 2024. One of the biggest advantages for Indian players is that they don't have to worry about the visa, travel, weather and the food! This helps them focus better on their chess. Harika mentioned the same in the opening ceremony with the words, "When I started packing for this event, I realized I don't have to worry about anything. I am travelling for just an hour and I get to play a super strong tournament with having nothing to worry about - food, weather etc. It felt so good that I didn't have to do anything beforehand and I was so jobless!" I am starting a new series on exploratory #data #analysis in the chess world, using typical "big picture" questions. Follow along if you like #graphs, #numbers, or #chess, in no particular order. Last week, someone implied that a higher number of games played should be strongly correlated with rating improvement. I have sought to explore this relationship using FIDE standard ratings from March (after the compression) until October. First, after discarding all players who have not touched rated OTB chess from the dataset, l looked at the distribution of rating. Then, after segmenting players into 3 separate age categories and creating scatter plots, the question can be answered conclusively. The results are satisfactory, at least on the surface. We expect improvers to benefit from playing more games (else why would they be called "Improvers"?) and for decliners to see the opposite. This was a bit of a trivial analysis, let's call it an appetizer...If you would like your idea to be featured on the timeline, please suggest ideas, engage with my content, and chances are that I will add it to a shortlist of topics if it receives attention.

@turnabouttess It's an "open" section only in name. At local, national and international levels, girls are encouraged/pushed to play girl sections and aim for female championships, that is, stay where they "belong." Then you hear that female-only events are "a temporary measure." Yeah, sure...
