@GoDuckYourself You’re missing the point but I see that you’re committed to missing it. They contribute to things that make all of our lives better and get far fewer benefits than they pay for. When they get to the age of being able to get Social Security, they’ve paid into it but can’t benefit.

Fun fact: immigrants without legal status pay taxes and receive zero benefits from said taxes they pay.

@blazerbanter If they are paid cash for babysitting or labor what percentage are they paying? In Oregon at least you still can get a nice suite of benefits without any status Lots of programs being exploited by corporations to drive down the cost of labor with immigrants trucking for example

@HungThrottle @FreightAlley I have no idea it’s a American product though? Not sure why they are so expensive down there but I imagine it’s best in class. We have emission standards they don’t in Lima would make no sense to import a American car that is just more expensive because California emissions

If you wanted to reindustrialize the US, while wiping out global manufacturing, this is the way to make that happen.

@FreightAlley I just don’t get his vision. I think making US manufacturing operate in a vacuum won’t work. I’m here in Lima, Peru and maybe 2% of the cars going by are from US manufacturers.

Interesting day. At unloading today, the receiver (customer) told us that he is tired of brokers price gouging (he paid the broker $1100 more than what we received on the load) and offered to do direct business with us on this lane. His rationale? He saves money on his side, but we make more money on our side, and cut out brokers completely. Looks like some shippers/receivers are waking up to the fact that the market is changing, capacity is more scarce, and maybe having relationships with carriers directly is more cost effective and efficient than using brokers. Point is: maybe now is the time to start looking for direct shippers? They might be more willing to work with carriers directly.
