I’ve been trying to figure out what Haley Stevens’ path to victory would be. Do Michiganders like her more IRL than people online? Almost definitely (apart from MDP activists). Maybe people like that her campaign is a love letter to Michigan and manufacturing. Or think she’s the most electable. But a candidate who is beholden to AIPAC talking points, voted to express gratitude to ICE & is coy about backing Schumer as leader winning a hotly contested Democratic primary in the year 2026? I’ve been wrong many, many times before. But I just can’t see it happening.

We must end the process of party conventions choosing the candidates for AG, SOS, SC and other statewide positions. An open statewide primary election process would better reflect the voters of Michigan.

@KaseyHelton05 That convention didn’t represent the base. That was the extreme left of the party. Extremists winning at the convention doesn’t equate to winning in November.

The real story tonight is in the numbers. The base wants a progressive populist platform that is people-centered on working class issues and rejects monied special interests of all types. They showed up to fight for that and won the day. When the people show up, they win.
