When I was discerning whether to convert to the Catholic Church, I committed to reading the Bible cover to cover. At the same time, I worked through a wide range of commentaries and theological works on both sides, especially on doctrines like Sola Scriptura and Sola Fide. I approached Scripture not just historically and literally, but also with attention to its allegorical depth and analytical coherence across the whole of salvation history.
That process led me to a simple conclusion: if God exists, and Jesus is God, and Jesus established a visible Church with real authority, then the only rational step is to identify that Church and belong to it.
Following the evidence to its end does not leave you with an invisible or purely spiritual reality. It points to a concrete, historical body. The Bible itself did not precede the Church. It emerged from within her life. That means Scripture is, in a real sense, a product of the Church’s authority to preserve, recognize, and canonize the inspired writings.
So the question became unavoidable: which Church actually did that? Tracing that historical and theological line leads back, consistently, to the Catholic Church.
