@Steven_Swinford "A pre-prepared statement", or, as we say in English, "a prepared statement".
English

Exclusive:
I'm told David Lammy had a pre-prepared statement that was ready to go on the accidental release of the migrant sex offender as he stood at the despatch box
It expressed outrage on behalf of victims and criticised the Tories. But he didn't use it, instead refusing to comment when it was repeatedly put to him that a prisoner had been released
Lammy is said not to have wanted to pre-empt any statement from the Met Police. The statement was there in case the news broke during Prime Minister's questions
But there are mounting questions in government this afternoon about his refusal to answer very pointed questions from the Tories on it and the defiant tone he took at the despatch box

@PennyRed "Asshole"? Surely you mean "arsehole". We're not Yanks.
English

@TaylorGrimesDog @adamtranter I'm over 65 and I cycled 25 miles yesterday.
English

@adamtranter Great, if you're under 30, hard work if you're under 50, hardly expected if you're under 65, practically impossible if you're over 65, but don't worry, Pensioners are being priced out of existence. I have no chance over 65 and disabled.
English

@MichaelLCrick Let’s hope they don’t write instruction manuels
English

@Wingerlar @peterrhague @dunstablian Why not? Income tax depends on the size of your income. I'm a pensioner, and I don't expect to be exempt from income tax.
English

@peterrhague @dunstablian You're a c**t for saying this. The bloke is nearly 80 and has one pension. My nan lived off one pension, and it wasn't easy a decade ago.
English

@Tricky_1984 @JustRed_69 @Bikery1966 So you think whether you should wear a helmet depends on how much you complain?
English

@GoodClearTweets @JustRed_69 @Bikery1966 Pedestrian and drivers don't cry about health and safety like cyclists do
English

I’ve been looking out for my safety riding bicycles for over 50 years.
Good observation and second guessing what idiots in motor vehicles will do next is what protects me not PPE.
Dutch style cycling infrastructure would make it a whole lot easier for those with no experience
Richard@Tricky_1984
@Bikery1966 Can you provide what equipment you have to protect you on your bike like helmet elbow pads knee pads ? Or do you expect others to look out for your safety
English

@Tricky_1984 @JustRed_69 @Bikery1966 Presumably you also want drivers and pedestrians to wear helmets, as they can also suffer head injuries while using the roads?
English

@JustRed_69 @2wheelsgoodBrum @Bikery1966 No but someone has to pay for your treatment. That could have been avoided if you had a helmet on
English

@shagbark_hick @etbadabimbim What makes you think Christianity is true?
English

Insofar as I profess to be a Christian, I feel I must also profess that a massive resurgence of Christianity is an inevitability if for no other reason that because Christianity is true.
I find the obsessive emphasis on "the narrow gate" vs. "making disciples of all nations" to be a kind of lazy apocalypticism, for example. We judge the tree by its fruit; the fruit of the tree of Christ is superior in all ways, it will spread and flourish throughout the world. The people will again, in time, "taste and see that the Lord is good."
Modernity has simply posed a temporary crisis that will make the Church stronger in the end, I am certain of it.
English

I have lately been following a lot of Aghani accounts on here, and they're absolutely fascinating. Really enjoying them.
They make me realize: For the Christian, there is no equivalent to how a Muslim would feel living in a Muslim country. Everything Islamic, 5x daily prayer, Jummah, just intense religious energy dripping from everything, and better still, in a country with a median age of just 17. A nation of young, devout religious people.
The energy must be unreal. It is nothing that any of us Christians will ever feel in the same kind of sustained, daily, intense way except in the most fleeting moments (pilgrimage to Rome, World Youth Day, certain festivals, rare towns, etc). Perhaps our great-grandchildren will if we are diligent, but until then, we will not see it.
Thinking on this, nothing motivates me toward Catholic evangelization more than the idea that perhaps, for future generations, this kind of intense religious energy might flourish again in the West.

@HistorianBlood @Hush_Kit The Mosquito was the finest strategic bomber of the war.

@Hush_Kit The Hurricane won the Battle of Britain, Lancaster was the finest strategic bomber of the war and the Mosquito was symbolic of British aviation’s ingenuity.

@deplorabristol @BearlyPolitics The last six times that I've moved house, I've moved next door to strangers.
English

@BearlyPolitics We used to live next door to British people. None of us chose to live next door to strangers.
English

@jonburkeUK What are people who shop in pyjamas doing in that list? They're not doing anyone any harm. Odd, though.
English

Top 10 U.K’s Everyday Worst People:
1/ People who play music out of their phone on public transport.
2/ People who let their children play noisy tablet games on public transport.
3/ People who scorch the grass in the park with their disposable BBQs.
4/ People who wild camp at beauty spots and leave behind their litter and broken kit.
5/ People who speed up late for school in their giant cars. Every day.
6/ People who pavement park.
7/ People who wear pyjamas to the shops.
8/ People who blow their sickly sweet vape smoke in your face.
9/ People who leave their dog crap bags hanging off tree branches.
10/ People who move in next door and immediately rip out the front garden and concrete over it.

@MaryPettyfer @BowdenDawes @johnmbrampton @HinchCPark @camcycle @borofergie Can you lift your wheelchair over a gate?
English

@BowdenDawes @johnmbrampton @HinchCPark @camcycle @borofergie I think fabulous idea, stops the reckless motorcycles that terrify dogs also scare children and elderly. I thought new bikes were really light I can life my nephews easily 🤔I don't see the problem 🤷🏼♀️
English

Oh dear, HDC erect new barrier to active travel at @HinchCPark . Do they really want to make the park more accessible for families and less able users? @camcycle @borofergie #exclusionarybarriers

@bananatransit @wildandhigh @adamtranter If a washing machine took up as much space as a car, that would make a lot of sense. But it takes up only as much space as a bicycle.
English

@wildandhigh @GoodClearTweets @adamtranter It’s not what has happened but it is the end result of policies being proposed.
I suppose 2+ cars is a reflection of households having two or more working adults.
Plenty of things are unused 90% of the time. Your washing machine is. Why not give it up and use a laundromat?
English

More than two in three drivers have shown support for a nationwide pavement parking ban, according to a new poll, reports GB News.

English

@bananatransit @jonknee01 @adamtranter Because there are too many, meaning, among many harmful effects, that people can't use pavements.
English

@GoodClearTweets @jonknee01 @adamtranter Meaning 50% of households need to move their car somewhere else, but if the surrounding streets are the same, there won’t be anywhere to park the car.
Sure we should make it easy to live without a car. That won’t happen quickly though. So why make it harder to live with one?
English

@bananatransit @jonknee01 @adamtranter They shouldn't need to move. We should arrange our society so that it's easy to live without owning a car.
(That street looks as if it could be made one-way, with parking on the carriageway on at least one side.)
English

@GoodClearTweets @jonknee01 @adamtranter Where should these people move to? Where else can they park?

English

@bananatransit @wildandhigh @adamtranter No, the narrow roads necessitate not having so many cars.
We don't have to continue living in a car-dependent society.
English

@wildandhigh @adamtranter We quite obviously live in a car dependent society. Cars are phenomenally useful and convenient which is why so many households have them. Some of those households are on small Victorian terraces with narrow roads that necessitate parking to some degree on the pavement.
