On March 30, 1863 Lincoln issued this call for a “Day of Humiliation, Fasting and Prayer.” The Civil War was our costliest war of military casualties from death and disease. The Battle of Antietam remains our costliest day of battle. youtube.com/watch?v=1Z3XYP…

I hope the Senate has more sense, and some staff who do research. Congress tried this in 1974. People hated it. Kids were killed in the morning dark. It was such an utter failure, it had to be repealed about 10 months later.

BREAKING: The House has passed legislation to make Daylight Saving Time permanent nationwide, ending the twice-a-year clock changes by a 308-117 vote. Backed by President Trump, the bill now heads to the Senate. If approved and signed into law, Americans would no longer have to change their clocks.

DEBUNKED: National Safety Council, National Sleep Foundation, and dozens more oppose permanent DST and endorse permanent Standard Time. Permanent DST’s 9am sunrises and chronic sleep deprivation dramatically increase fatal crashes: “We found a very clear pattern. People in time zones that don’t have enough sun in the morning die [in automobile accidents] at higher rates, more than 20%, which is mind-boggling.” —Jeff Gentry PhD, Eastern New Mexico University newschannel10.com/2023/01/30/enm…
Rep. Vern Buchanan@VernBuchanan

Permanent daylight saving time would reduce car crashes and car accidents involving animals by around 37,500, according to the American Journal of Public Health. This isn’t just about bettering lives; it’s about protecting them. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/7832269/

DEBUNKED: The American Farm Bureau’s Director of Communications has written permanent Daylight Saving Time is worst for farmers (because it darkens mornings to 9am), permanent Standard Time is best. agrinews-pubs.com/opinion/column…
Rep. Vern Buchanan@VernBuchanan

Permanent daylight saving time is beneficial for farmers too. The American Farm Bureau Federation believes this supports their farmers nationwide through longer evening hours and more availability to sell food. insidenova.com/news/national/…

If the Sunshine Protection Act passes, I'll be starting work in the dark 89 days out of the year; terrible. Sunshine for Our Kids Act (SOKA) is permanent Standard Time and a much better option (or we can stay on the current system!) savestandardtime.com/chart/ @SaveStandard

@deeshack1 @mr_jay_pea @RepLangworthy DST was made permanent in 1973 after passing Emergency Daylight Saving Time Energy Conservation Act. Nine months later there were 80 bills introduced to repeal it. Will Congress learn from the past?

@Breaking911 Only Congress would be foolish enough to pass a bill that was already shown to be an utter failure in 1974, so much so it had to be repealed about 10 months later.

Medicare shouldn't pay one price for an ultrasound in a doctor's office and another for the exact same ultrasound in a hospital. Site-neutral payments would save taxpayers and remove a major incentive for consolidation. detroitnews.com/story/opinion/…

It’s not irrational to see massive state subsidies of failing companies as a form of socialism, and people who aren’t socialists don’t have to salute to the lexicon of Marxist theorists. Nobody is required to unironically use terms like “ownership of the means of production.”
Brian G@98CRuE6

@mtaibbi Stop with the terminology? Accuracy matters, otherwise we allow people to pollute the issue with incorrect definitions. It's not socialism.

Ralph Norman is fighting Speaker Johnson RIGHT NOW to get President Trump’s border policies codified into law. That’s exactly the kind of fighter South Carolina needs in the US Senate.
Jake Sherman@JakeSherman

The HOUSE GOP leadership hasn’t closed a procedural vote — they’re 15 min over the allotted time. JOHNSON is chatting with the HFC- Norman, Roy, self, Harris, ogles, Biggs. This is the group that is furious with Johnson for not allowing votes to codify trumps border policies.

I gave my daughter 3 dollars for helping me clean my car. I immediately took 2 dollars back and gave it to her little brother who did nothing. She said why does he get the money? I said I'm giving you a lesson on something called "Socialism" and she said "I don't like Socialism"

“No country is allowed to charge tolls or fees on an international waterway.” “We believe international waterways should be free of tolls.” That’s what Rubio and Vance said just last month. Now Trump is imposing a 20% toll on the Strait. Will they stand up for what they said?
Aaron Rupar@atrupar

Trump: "The U.S.A. will be, from this point forward, known as 'THE GUARDIAN OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT,' but as such, and as a matter of FAIRNESS, will be reimbursed, at the rate of 20% on all cargo shipped, for any and all costs necessary to do the job of providing safety and security to this very volatile section of the World. The process and formation will begin immediately."

It appears we need this history lesson again this week? @HouseGOP -- As a matter of history, permanent DST is doomed to fail. Please do not be fooled by the travel industry lobbyists. Permanent Standard is the correct way to stop clock changes. #history #MAHA
Tara Ross@TaraRoss

On this day in 1974, the United States experiments with permanent Daylight Saving Time. An energy crisis had prompted Congress to “spring forward” on January 6. The plan was to stay there, without “falling back” to Standard Time, for nearly two years. The experiment didn’t last long. Instead, it was cut short after just ten months. /1 of X #storytime 🧵👇

Q9: God could have done this differently. He didn’t need to put Moses into the water to escape Pharaoh's decree. Just like He didn’t need to send Jesus to Egypt to escape Herod. Yet He did. Why do you think God often chooses to do things “the hard way”? #healthyfaithchat

Q8: As discussed earlier, Moses was “beautiful”. Is 52:2 says the opposite about Jesus: “He had no stately form or majesty to attract us, no beauty that we should desire Him”. Why do you think God chose to not make Jesus “beautiful” in His incarnation? #healthyfaithchat
