@jonsthreecents @EWErickson Creative work arounds aren't necessary. There is already a legal option to end clock changing in any state. We simply choose as a state to opt out of DST & observe standard time in our current time zone. No federal or DOT action would be necessary. No work around either.

@lifeinthe_sun @SeanDuffyWI Time is meant to measure the sun’s position in the sky. Time zones are meant to correspond to longitude. Clock advancement darkens mornings and increases fatal accidents; it has been tried and reverted before. Georgia’s longitude is EST, not AST!

@EWErickson Georgians, please call your state house reps asap, tell them to OPPOSE HB 154. Atlantic Time is 1500 miles of Georgia, it would put sunrise past 8am from early November into mid-March, and it would create chaos for communications, travel, and commerce. legis.ga.gov/find-my-legisl…

@nealgoggins @NWGAStormDawgwx There is a federally legal option for GA & any state to stop changing the time. We can adopt year round standard time in our current time zone. The switching could stop this year. For some reason legislators insist on ignoring that option.

Their idea is NOT a good one! Putting us an hour ahead of the rest of the east coast like Bermuda. We are going to be two hours ahead of Alabama and parts of TN and FL too that are in Central time. Just ridiculous and ball game times and TV show times will be all whacked out of shape and also business times will be out of whack with the rest of the country. If anything stay in standard time.

@tornadocam @NWGAStormDawgwx I live in GA. I have a high Rx w/ astigmatism. It's difficult for me to drive in the dark as well. The morning commutes in darkness are far more frequent than the evening ones. GA's earliest sunset is near 5:30pm but on winter DST sunrises would be after 8am for 4 months.

@NWGAStormDawgwx I do not live in GA but if I did. Daylight Savings year round. I hate Standard Time the main reason is because once the sun goes down I'm nearly blind. I can see and do things later in the evening most of the year on DST.

Please deny this request @SecDuffy. Atlantic time is designed to be centered on the 60th meridian which is 1400 miles from Atlanta. It would mean from east to west Atlantic for Puerto Rico, eastern for all east coast states, GA back on Atlantic but connected to AL on central.😩
The Calvin Coolidge Project@TheCalvinCooli1

🚨Report: The Georgia State Senate has passed a bill to move Georgia to the Atlantic Time Zone and observe year-round Daylight Saving Time, eliminating the need to change clocks twice a year. The change would require Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy to approve of the change.

@jonsthreecents @SecDuffy It's not necessary anyway because GA can opt out of DST at the state level now without Congress by choosing to observe standard time year round. Which would keep sunrise before 8am all year and light past 8pm all summer. Seems like the best solution to me.

@deeshack1 @SecDuffy If Congress would get off their butts & approve permanent DST for the 19 states whose legislatures have already done so (including GA, FL, AL, TN, and SC) then this creative workaround wouldn't be necessary.

@deeshack1 @SecDuffy What's especially scary that my girlfriend pointed out is that this is even worse than normal permanent DST bills, nothing to stop them from going to "double daylight time" in a few years for the golf lobbyists. Adding October and March to the post-8 AM sunrise part of the year.

@dewpoint05 @mr_jay_pea @MichaelWrayJr @SaveStandard It's difficult to understand how that's a legal maneuver yes. But it's 100% what actually happened. It's an intentional effort to sneak the bill through without the opportunity for opposers to participate in the process. Shameful really.

@mr_jay_pea @MichaelWrayJr @SaveStandard It is difficult for me to understand, "The Georgia Senate took a random bill in its final stages, changed all of its content to become something completely different: an immediate and unilateral change to the state’s time zone. And they did it without changing the bill’s title."

Georgia residents: OPPOSE HB 154! This bill would push sunrise past 8am for four months, as late as 8:50am. It cost lives when last tried. Health and safety needs Standard Time's morning light. Click here 👉 votervoice.net/ditchDST/Campa… 👈 to tell your GA reps to ditch DST, and keep Eastern Standard Time!

@Mike_Pantelakis @Stabaco @wsbtv One of many reasons. Waking in the dark, putting kids on buses & driving to work in the dark for months at a time goes against our biological need to wake with light to improve wakefulness, alertness, & health. Trying to sleep before or soon after sunset is also unnatural.

@JerseyGeneral34 @KelleyKga The simplest way for GA to end clock changes is the way that their legislators continuously ignore. GA & any state can adopt year round standard time in their existing time zone without federal action & without DOT approval. It's already allowed under the Uniform time act.

@EWErickson It would be better to stick with EST. This move would mean that sunrise wouldn't happen until almost 9am for 4 months of the year. That's 4 months of rush hour and taking your kids to school in the dark just so 10 people can play golf after work

@SecDuffy please do not pass this!! We never asked for this! We want permanent standard time. They should be working for we the people, not for themselves
Jay Pea@mr_jay_pea

@denisebyers7777 @SecDuffy The US tried permanent DST in the 1940s and 1970s, both were publicly rejected due to dark mornings, chronic sleep deprivation, children’s deaths, business chaos. Permanent Standard Time, aligned to sun/longitude, is naturally most healthful and safe, proven to last decades.

Call your Georgia representative to oppose HB 154 (No to DST): legis.ga.gov/find-my-legisl… This bill advanced under an emergency services label, with the DST change included within it. Constituent outreach is making an impact. @RepSharonCooper's office returned my call and indicated she plans to reject the revised bill coming back from the Senate. @EWErickson @wabenews @GovKemp @rahulbali @mr_jay_pea @SaveStandard
