Idk what's going on here, but @United seems to be having an issue with its first 787 Dreamliner, registered N61101, with the new Polaris seats. The plane's eastbound long-haul inaugural did an air return back to Singapore bc of smoke in the cabin. United then ferried the jet — empty — back to San Francisco for repairs. Three days later, it started flying again. It then operated three commercial flights. And tonight, the jet just went mechanical again. This time, at least the plane never took off. Not a great way to inaugurate the new product.

As a King's College London-trained War Studies PhD, I want to point out that in the field of organized human conflict, one can often be saved by one's opponent being even more stupid than oneself. Often, having a terrible plan is offset by an opponent having a more terrible plan. This 'relative stupidity index' is much under-served in the strategic studies literature, which often focuses on highlights in strategic acumen (see "Makers of Modern Strategy " (Ed. Paret)), as opposed to the more common phenomenon of competing nadirs of strategic incompetence. We should more often ask ourselves: which one-legged man would win in an arse-kicking contest?

An unknown trader has made nearly $200 million (and counting) in the last week playing tech earnings. This assumed single entity opened ITM short call positions on both $MSFT and $GOOG in the days leading up to their earnings. They shorted the MSFT 445c 1/30 calls over the course of 2 days before $MSFT dropped 10% post earnings, realizing nearly $155 million on the trade. They placed a similar trade with $GOOG, shorting well ITM calls that have since gone far out of the money. Another $60 million has been realized today. And still they appear to have another position, tthis time in $AMZN: shorting (at the time ITM) 227.5 weeklies from on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this week. This position can potentially bring them another $70 million in profit. $AMZN reports earnings tonight!
