Back in 2003, Charles Kennedy, then leader of the Liberal Democrats stood against the US/UK war in Iraq. He initially faced intense vilification and ridicule for opposing the 2003 Iraq war, yet was later completely vindicated by the Chilcot Report. As the only major UK party leader opposing the invasion, he was heckled in Parliament, and The Sun called him a "spineless reptile" and a "snake" for his stance. But history now judges him well. We forget the lessons of history at our own peril.

I write for ease & for strengthening of my memory, & it may be for future ages, when the law of love will be more naturalized ~ Ann Bathurst, 1694 I get goosebumps when C17th women address future readers! They hoped the future would be more open to them than was their present

@LondonHistorian My Life with Nye by Jennie Lee, Aneurin Bevan's wife. I don't know who can contradict her. Google gives Oxford Dictionary of Quotations and Stephen Pollard in the Spectator Oct 2025. Some say Morrison but they are later, I find. Attacking the left-wing Bevan makes more sense.

@FXMC1957 The condemnation was just a formality. Everyone knew the Versailles Treaty was wicked, and therefore indefensible.

7 March 1936. Adolf Hitler sent German troops into the de-militarised Rhineland, something that was strictly prohibited by the Treaty of Versailles of 1919 and the Locarno accords of 1926. The western Allies condemned the move, but took no military action.

These houses were built on the site of Norway Dock at Rotherhithe. The dock was originally created in 1811 for ships bringing timber to London from the Baltic and it became one of the vast network of the Surrey Commercial Docks.

AI could be a great boon for historians. In future, instead of believing all the nonsense in the media, people will learn at school to distrust every photo and every fact. Everybody will become a historian.

@andrewsgeoff But, Geoff, he's just the first. Blair may put him in the shade once he's dead and can no longer sue. New Labour had a penchant for power and influence from the beginning (Murdoch).

Mandelson’s enduring sense of entitlement is grotesque. But the fall-out from all this will reveal the wider conduct of the New Labour establishment in promoting and protecting him.

@y_alibhai This year is the 50th anniversary of the Grunwick strike. I hope you’ll be a speaker, Yasmin, and remind people exactly what happened in Uganda.

European leaders call Trump's country grabs ' the new colonialism '. While endorsing Israeli takeover of Palestine. And forgetting their own past and present. See them. Know them. Never trust them.
