My 5 year old boy does football training. At the end of the session they do a ‘man of the match’ type thing. My boy is always desperate to win it. He often doesn’t. I explained to him the other day that he didn’t win simply because he wasn’t good enough. That he deffo could win, but he just needs to be better, try harder, be more focused etc. One of the other mums heard me & was aghast at what I said. She told me she is going to get ‘runner-up stickers’ for all the kids who don’t make it. I said no thanks, not for my son. Kids need to learn that they can be the best, but they must apply themselves & dust themselves off when it doesn’t go their way. No consolation prizes, no ‘everyone’s a winner’ etc. There are winners & losers. Wanna win - do your best. Can’t make it? Don’t worry, go & smash something else. Play to your strengths & never, ever play the victim. If more parents & institutions had this attitude, the country would be in a better place - if I say so myself 😉 Cc @KonstantinKisin x.com/KonstantinKisi…

Wow. Jake Paul reveals there’s a real possibility he may never fight again due to complications stemming from the broken jaw he suffered against Anthony Joshua: “I’m getting some new scans in a couple of days on the jaw to get an update on the healing process. We’ll see what my doctors say and if I can even fight again. That is definitely within the realm of possibility. It does feel a lot better as the weeks and time go by. I think it just depends on how the bone heals. There’s also a tooth missing here, and I’m pretty sure I’m going to have to get some sort of implant. We just have to wait and figure out what the smartest thing is for me.”

I've watched the video. When he throws the punch, the two are already separated, the fan is under control from stewards, and no longer poses any threat. I haven't seen the video of the Rochdale fan attacking him first, but whether he did or not is a separate incident, and should 100% be investigated. But football players are role models to young children, and so it is incumbent upon society to ensure that they are held to significantly higher standards.

York City Football Club would like to make the following comment regarding one of our players in the aftermath of our last-minute goal at Rochdale. The ending to Saturday’s game at Rochdale has, understandably, been seen around the world and held up as an example of what is so special about our game. The fans played a huge part in that, and for all those in the stadium, it was a unique emotional rollercoaster that will never be forgotten. Given that emotion and the stakes involved, we appreciate the enormous challenges that came with policing and securing a game of such obvious importance. In front of a passionate, sell-out crowd, those challenges became even more significant when the game concluded in the way that it did. The safety of players, staff, officials, and fans must always be the priority, and it is important to recognise all those in the stadium who worked to ensure that was the case. It will be important in the coming days for there to be a proper reflection and assessment of the circumstances around the end of the game, what happened and what can be learned. As a club, we are committed to assisting with any review, and we will support all our players and staff in contributing to this. YCFC will be supporting Hiram through all proceedings. #YCFC🔴🔵

That is sickening. From ultimate elation to deflation. How can something so big on the line be decided on a controversial decision. For it to come down to that I can’t believe it. This Dale team gave it their all. Somehow we are going to have to pick ourselves back up. #RAFC

Chris Eubank Jr. is owed an apology. Eddie has admitted that he paid for Conor Benn’s house and his car. I understand he wasn’t going to throw Benn under the bus at a press conference, but Eubank has now been vindicated.

Now that the dust has settled, let’s be honest about Carrick’s football. Yes, the results look good. But outside of that Mancity and Arsenal performance, where is the clear identity? I haven’t seen anything structurally better than what Amorim was building. It’s mostly counter-attacks, moments, and individual quality. And if we’re being honest, that’s the exact formula that fooled us before. That works in short bursts. It doesn’t win leagues and the Champions League unless we are just comfortable qualifying for the Champions League every season. United can’t make the same mistake again - giving a permanent job off a good run without asking bigger questions. We need a coach for the next five years, not just the next five months. If we’re serious about competing in the Premier League and Champions League, vibes won’t be enough.

@GregTHEHedgehog @whoiso11y_B @BladeoftheS If they can keep employees salary below £10K, don't have to provide workplace pension for them & working more than 16 hours/week affects income support & other benefits. Tesco happy to have their employees 'supported' by the tax payer but their boss doesn't want to be one himself

Ken Murphy is Tesco’s UK CEO and the highest paid supermarket boss. He gets £9,930,000 a year, but is registered to pay tax in the Republic of Ireland. Yet today he complains about his workers wages being too high.

@BladeoftheS yep tesco hires majority of their ground floor staff on a 16hr a week contract and you’re working for 8 to 9hrs a day so all the extra days is over time, maybe it’s some kind of tax avoidance or something I don’t know but that’s how my friend was employed when he worked there

🚨BREAKING: Real Madrid & Bayern Munich are keeping tabs on Diogo Dalot as a RB option. Madrid view him as a potential replacement for Trent, while Bayern see him as a rotation choice. [@Ekremkonur] It'd be at least £70M considering his age, experience, quality, & leadership.
