On Wednesday, 8 July 2026, I will formally move a motion seeking leave of @Parliament_Ug to introduce a Bill to amend the Parliament (Administration) Act, 2006. The proposed amendment seeks to revise the provisions governing the appointment and removal of the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament. Specifically, it proposes that the Leader of the Opposition be elected by Members of Parliament belonging to opposition parties together with Independent Members, rather than being appointed through the current arrangement. Gen Kainerugaba Meets NMG Owners Over Daily Monitor, NTV Closure The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has met with the leadership of Nation Media Group (NMG) Uganda to discuss the ongoing closure of its outlets, which include NTV Uganda and the Daily Monitor. The meeting, which took place at the Special Forces Command headquarters in Entebbe, was attended by NMG owner, Mr. Rostam Aziz, and his son, Mr. Saam Aziz, alongside Ms. Georgia Mutagaywa, the Chief of Staff of Taarifa Limited, which is the parent organization of NMG. Veteran journalist and PLU leader Andrew Mwenda also attended, alongside Acting UPDF/Defence Public Information Director, Col. Chris Magezi. The meeting follows the recent closure of NMG Uganda’s premises by security forces. The shutdown was instituted on the orders of the CDF following guidance of the President and Commander-In Chief of the UPDF. General Kainerugaba cited the sustained blackmail campaign by the media group against the government of Uganda and its leadership, alongside promoting opposition and foreign interests at the expense of Uganda. During the deliberations, specific instances of what the government deems biased and malicious reporting were reviewed, with the NMG ownership committing to adopting a more patriotic, balanced, and objective approach to their journalism moving forward. This meeting is part of an ongoing dialogue to resolve the standoff between the media group and the government. Gen. Kainerugaba announced via his social media channels that he will present a formal report on the discussions to the President for consideration before a final decision on reopening the premises is made.

The proposed amendment we are going to table before @Parliament_Ug is actually going to empower the opposition in Parliament. They will have powers to select a Leader of Opposition of their choice. So I expect Opposition MPs to support us in this journey.

Sitaane, 3 months ago, on the 21st of March, 2026, launched an attack on the life of Maama. However, sitaane miscalculated. The 21st of March is a good day for the Resistance. That is when we defeated the counter-attack of Idi Amin at Rugaando (12 miles from Mbarara) in 1979. God, using good doctors, saved Maama’s life and she is now recovering well.   Maama has done great things in the family, especially caring for the children during the 2nd phase of the Resistance between 1981 to 1986 when she was alone in exile and I was in the bush. She has been a great philanthropist with UWESO and she has contributed to the NRM politics in Ntungamo on top of her religious work.   I pray to God to get us to 100 years respectively so that we, among the other good things, see the birth of the East African Federation which is the Insurance of Africa against any future domination or marginalization.   Signed:   Yoweri K. Mr. Andile Ramaphosa and his team paid me a courtesy call this afternoon at Nakasero State Lodge. They presented proposals for collaboration with NAGRC and the Regional Service Centre Initiative at Namunkekera Farm aimed at strengthening the regulated breeding, harvesting and export of Ankole cattle genetics to the SADC region and beyond. They also shared a proposal to establish a B.O.T. laboratory to help address the challenge of counterfeit agro-inputs in the country. I welcome these ideas, I thank them for their initiative. The Government will study the proposals and support initiatives that advance Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.
