It feels like Greece's privacy laws are the end game for governments around the world.
While some ideas sound good on the surface, like banning social media for anyone under the age of 15, it becomes quickly obvious that the devil is in the details: how are they having user prove their age?
With Greek elections slated for January 2027, lots of campaigning is already underway.
Greek Politicians have said a number of alarming things about digital ID. While many here in the USA are in denial about the rapid movement towards digital ID, often citing how the age variable recently added into operating systems is self-reported, politicians in Greece are playing with their cards face-up on the table.
Greece's Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou, said specifically that ID laws will be required to to curb "toxicity" online and prevent "character assassination."
Government Spokesman, Pavlos Marinakis stated that, while the plan "would not necessarily ban pseudonyms," it aims to ensure every account "links back to a verifiable real identity behind the scenes."
As trust in government plummets over the 21st century, somehow the average voter seems content to allow anonymity online to be killed.
Dimitris Papastergiou even referenced Ancient Greece, the beginning of Western civilization, in defense of these digital ID laws. Papastergiou said, "In ancient Greece, citizens expressed their opinions openly and by name. This principle should inspire our digital democracy today" in April 2026.
Humorously, or tragically, depending who you ask, Ancient Greece had several ways of publishing books anonymously, with Pseudepigrapha being the most prevalent. Pseudepigrapha is when writers published content under the name of famous, long-dead figures, just as many post online using a pseudonym of an anime character or figure from history today.
While the EU lacks the powerful free speech laws that the USA has, the USA is also moving quickly in this space, passing bipartisan bill for digital age verification laws in 25 states. While some of these bills appear likely to make it up to the Federal Supreme Court, it is terrifying just how quickly privacy online is being dismantled.
I truly believe that these laws are the most important pieces of legislature to challenge of our lifetimes. While I agree that social media is objectively damaging for children to consume, these bills appear to be targeting the freedom of anonymous speech online so that the ruling class can better control narratives across social media. We should look to Greece and see how they are already showing their hand by mentioning a crackdown on "toxicity" and "character assassination" online, when at first, the goals were simply to protect children from social media addiction.
"Protect the children" and "terrorism" have been used throughout my lifetime to reign in civil rights, and these bills are the biggest direct assault on these rights that I have seen since the Patriot Act. I hope that people who aren't technologically inclined can recognize how damaging shutting off anonymous posting online will be for society, but to be honest, I have little hope that enough average people will care about these laws before it's too late.

@MinModulation Just the musical output alone was unlike anything I've ever seen. I'm still unsure of what kind of perfect storm happened for the MLP fandom of all to have taken the shape it did

Back from EU Parliament. We had several technical & procedural problems happening realtime while we presented, but we brought up all our main points and have majority support. The NGO is now running stopkillinggames.com, I'll get back to regular vids as soon as I can manage.

Destroying the @InternetArchive's @WayBackMachine would be the equivalent of the burning of the Library of Alexandria - one of the worst losses of knowledge in history.
Media giants are now threatening to do this.
We can't let this happen.
Pass it on.
