“People should be able to… enjoy a pint of beer, take their kids to the football, but they can’t” Businessman and TV personality Tom Skinner says people have “no money” despite working “every hour”, and Labour are “smacking” businesses when they need “more support” #bbcqt

@RachelMboo @MatthewStadlen This isn't just a phone though is it? It's a treasure-trove of closely guarded contact details and confidential exchanges between those that run the nation. In the hands of an enemy, a weapon.

@MatthewStadlen Many of the same people who claim you can’t set foot in London without getting your phone nicked now claiming a man getting his phone nicked in London is unbelievable.

So can we be just be clear? Journalists are alleging that Morgan McSweeney staged the theft of his phone, lied to police, and wasted police time, in order to hide messages to Mandelson? And that the Prime Minister might be implicated in a cover-up? These are extremely serious and defamatory allegations.

@jacobin Understanding how Marx managed to hump the help behind the back of his wife and family demands a degree of empathy all capitalists struggle to muster.

Karl Marx was an analytically rigorous theoretician. But his 1853 article “The Duchess of Sutherland and Slavery” is a good reminder that he was also motivated by white-hot outrage about injustice.jacobin.com/2023/09/karl-m…

Karl Marx died on this day in 1883. His work helps us not only understand capitalism but fight for a world free of exploitation and domination 🧵

I can't believe that people still fall for this rubbish. North Sea oil costs ≈ $60+ to produce a barrel. Middle East oil costs ≈ $10-$20. The North Sea is known as a mature oil province — it's production peaked in 1999-2000 and has steadily declined ever since. Even if new drilling began, the production levels would fall and the costs would rise. It's an absolute non-starter. Reform UK know this, but they'll keep lying to you about it regardless. 🤦‍♂️
Robert Jenrick@RobertJenrick

It is economic lunacy to ignore our rich energy reserves. Reform will unapologetically drill in the North Sea for oil and gas. We’ll get bills down and bring back good jobs.

Help me out here, economists. Why is it okay to burn Norwegian gas but not British gas? It's a bit like saying it's okay to be a drug addict as long as you don't grow your own.
David Frost@DavidGHFrost

Britain's net zero national suicide pact is about to kill off another great British (and great Derbyshire) company. Denby Pottery @denbypottery goes into administration because of "soaring industrial energy costs" and of course "escalating costs of employment in the UK". itv.com/news/central/2…

A country that does this to its smart, ambitious young people deserves to fail. It’s no deeper than that. The grim truth is large parts of the political and media class have hated young people for a long time now. Generation PAYE-pig.
