The two pieces of ‘SLIDE AND RUN’ by @nikitadiakur are now available for bidding! ▪️Reserve auction starting at 1500 xtz The exhibition Slide and Run presents two works: ‘Run ⎕’ and ‘Hair 2 ∞’. These pieces explore the tension between control and randomness in computer-generated imagery through an animation method that blends puppeteering with dynamic simulation. Created a decade ago in 2014, the Ugly series emerged as a counter-response to the highly polished CGI aesthetics prevalent at the time, emphasizing unpredictability and imperfection. Traditional animation allows for complete control through iterative adjustments, but the animation in Ugly introduces uncertainty by integrating simulated physics. The animator sets the initial parameters and directs the action, but the computer’s calculations determine the final movement. This approach results in a more organic and unpredictable output, akin to working with human actors whose behavior cannot be fully anticipated. Thus, Ugly challenges conventional notions of animation by embracing imperfection, work-in-progress aesthetics, and the unexpected outcomes inherent to simulation-based processes.
