@DrInsensitive Many salt substitutes are potassium chloride. 1/4 teaspoon is about 690mg. I spike my water with it.
English

The Potassium Holocaust
Brought to you by the FDA, for equity.
Potassium deficiency is almost universal. Only 3% of the US population gets the FDA recommended 4,700 mg per day.
The result is widespread high blood pressure. Some studies have found that even modest potassium supplementation reduces cardiovascular mortality by a whopping ~30%.
Grok estimates 20,000-60,000 deaths annually are caused by potassium deficiency, mainly through its effect on blood pressure.
That's just in the USA.
Obviously, more people should take potassium supplements, so the government stepped in to make that impractical.
You see, excess potassium can be dangerous for people with kidney failure, who are disproportionately Black.
So FDA regulations effectively limit potassium supplements to 99 mg, which is 2% of the FDA's recommended daily intake.
To get the FDA's recommended potassium intake with the biggest supplements the FDA allows, you must take 50 per day.
For reference, one 6-oz glass of tomato juice contains 400 mg, which is 8% of the FDA's recommend daily intake, and 400% of the FDA's maximum allowable potassium supplement.

@themightyjim @CaryKelly11 I think some foods easily trigger more consumption. So yes calories in, calories burned but avoiding some foods might make it far less likely to over consume
English

@CaryKelly11 Calories. It’s calories. It’s always been calories. The components of your food are just different ways to get calories into your system. If you consume more than you burn you will gain weight. There is no silver bullet. There is no conspiracy.

@AngelporrasXx One should are for their parents as long as they are able. When and if it reaches the point you are at then it is ok to place her in a facility. Visit her, check for bedsores and other signs of neglect. Get her the best care there that you can.

@DrPlantel Here are 4 more:
4. Fluoridated water is a triumph of public health, not a conspiracy.
5. Raw milk is a game of Russian roulette.
6. GMO foods are totally safe.
7. Don't sauna, workout & cold plunge while wearing skinny jeans.
English

Three things that are somehow controversial that absolutely should not be:
1. You do not need to eat organic produce to be healthier, especially when plenty of people are struggling to eat even a single vegetable in a day.
2.Vaccines are preventive medicine, period.
3.RFK Jr. is an abomination to public health. Dead serious. His rhetoric is dangerous, and people are getting hurt.

@BirdieTweetieac @hell_line0 Few abortions are the result of a triage decision. You didn't make your point.
English

@Gynx222 @hell_line0 And.... what is the basis on which triage is done, dear?
Congratulations, you just discovered the point of the thought experiment, not the point you were trying to make.

Picture this you’re at a hospital in a hurricane. The power has gone out, there is one generator supporting a 6 month old who is currently on life support until they can get them into surgery. There is also a freezer with an embryo in it. There is only enough power for one.
Most people are going to unplug the freezer to keep the living breathing baby alive. Congrats now you understand the diffeeence between a baby and a pregnancy

@woofknight While cats eat the food humans buy the food. It's not marketed to the cats.

@Hybridathlete They misspelled brawny. This is the right amount of muscle.
English

I’ve been called a lot of things on this app, but this is the first time I’ve been called “scrawny.”

chuckism1@chuckism1
@Hybridathlete Post your meals. You’re too scrawny for this to be fact. 2400 cals/day at best

@ClimateWarrior7 @lollylollipops2 We started this way before digital scales were super easy to use. It still works so we haven't completely adopted the weight system. Some dedicated people do use a scale instead of volume here.

@lollylollipops2 I'm just trying to learn how they do things in the richest most powerful nation on Earth.

Some training is still required. Some fail and can't be used for herding.

How do we explain this other than some kind of transmitted memory? There's no gene for "chase sheep but don't eat them"

@_BEPS1 @TeasMoonlight OMG. This stuff happened to me. I'm so sorry. Box breathing helps me. Brings that heart rate down and makes it quieter.
English

@TeasMoonlight maybe..my eye has been twitching for 8 days now but i will try to rest even tho every time I close my eyes i can feel my heartbeat
English

@TechOperator @BenandAurora It is perfectly acceptable to post a cat pic on a dog thread, especially if you have a cat but no dog.
English

@Moonlight_myths My husband snores. I can not got sleep or stay asleep with that racket. We tried a few things to stop the snoring. It didn't work. I wear earplugs to sleep. It is the simplest most effective remedy.

If your neighbour has a baby, and it cries ALL NIGHT, and it's room-is directly next to yours divided by a wall, is it okay to ask them to move the baby to another room?
My alarm goes off at 5am. This baby cries until 2, 3am most nights. I am exhausted. I am ill. I am childless by choice and I DO NOT need this.
I understand the mother is tired.
But you know what? This was not my choice. I'm experiencing the consequences of her choice and I am no longer understanding of it.
English

@Gynx222 @slattemar @ReviewsPossum Wow, I don't conceive of the pieces that way. The shape itself a concept. I don't say, "Two corners and two things sticking out" or anything like that. It's totally visual to me.
English

Do you have an inner monologue?
Can you rotate an apple in your mind?
Can you blur your vision on command?
Possum Reviews@ReviewsPossum
I just learned that only half of people can blur their vision on command.

@Devon_Eriksen_ @cremieuxrecueil Wouldn't the badger have eaten the cantaloupe?
English

@cremieuxrecueil "This box does not contain a live badger."
[opens box]
[gets face torn off by badger]
"I thought you said there was no badger!"
"You're confused. The box didn't contain a live badger, it contained a live badger AND a cantaloupe."
English

@elonmusk The thing I find strangest about mars is that it doesn't look all that strange to me.

@CeciliaGlennon @slattemar @ReviewsPossum I give them names if I'm going to be doing something much. The oblong tabs are tounges. The one that have a flared piece with a point are spades, ect
English

@slattemar @ReviewsPossum I was doing a jigsaw puzzle the other day looking for a particular shape. There are numerous puzzle shapes. They have no names. How does an internal monologue handle that? Name them?
