If you're on a statin, you should be supplementing with CoQ10 Statins block cholesterol synthesis via the HMG-CoA pathway, but that same pathway also produces CoQ10, which is essential for mitochondrial energy production When CoQ10 levels fall, mitochondrial function can suffer, with downstream effects on muscle health, brain health, and cardiovascular function Ubiquinol is generally preferred because it's the reduced, more bioavailable form, but ubiquinone has also shown benefits in studies and may still be effective at a high enough dose

Understanding pseudoscience starts with understanding science itself. Science is a process aimed at getting closer to the truth. Pseudoscience, by contrast, lacks the methods and rigor that underpin scientific inquiry. Read more here: mssa.app/458

Please stop telling people with osteoporosis not to lift anything heavy... I've heard it from docs, PTs, Trainers, etc... This might seem protective... but it's not. This risk calculation... A hip fracture in an older adult carries a one-year mortality rate of roughly 25 percent. Half of those who survive never walk independently again. That is the cost of fragility. The risk of a well-supervised, progressively loaded heavy (80-85% 1RM) strength program (LIFTMOR) is a muscle strain or a bruise. These are not equivalent risks, and treating them as equivalent, as avoidance does, is not caution. It is a decision to accept the larger risk in order to avoid the smaller one.

@Jbones72 @LincolnRestler Do you drive over the the speed limit? How about jay walk? It is against the law, right? Ticket folks for breaking traffic laws, but don't make them spend an entire day in CRIMINAL court for rolling through a red on an empty street.

Ticketing cyclists more aggressively than drivers never made sense. Kudos to the Mamdani administration for reversing this. It is important that everyone follow the rules of the road - but a delivery worker missing a stop sign shouldn’t get swept up in deportation proceedings.

Less than one-quarter of the population performs resistance training on a regular basis. Time is considered the primary barrier to participation. It shouldn't be. An emerging body of evidence shows that as little as two 30-minute resistance training sessions per week can produce meaningful improvements in strength, muscle hypertrophy, functional capacity, and various health-related outcomes. Several years ago we published a paper titled, "No Time to Lift? Designing Time-Efficient Training Programs for Strength and Hypertrophy" (PMID: 34125411) that detailed time-saving strategies for workouts. Here are some of the highlights: 1. Training efficiency can be enhanced by emphasizing bilateral, multijoint exercises performed through a full range of motion. 2. Incorporating techniques such as supersets, drop sets, and rest-pause training can reduce session duration by about half compared to traditional approaches, while still maintaining overall volume load. 3. When using moderate to higher repetition ranges, specific warm-ups may be largely unnecessary, and cool-downs are not essential. 4. Resistance training performed through a full range of motion can improve flexibility, minimizing the need for dedicated stretching unless further gains in range of motion are required for daily activities. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC84… Bottom line: Just lift 💪 #noexcuses

Three things that are somehow controversial that absolutely should not be: 1. You do not need to eat organic produce to be healthier, especially when plenty of people are struggling to eat even a single vegetable in a day. 2.Vaccines are preventive medicine, period. 3.RFK Jr. is an abomination to public health. Dead serious. His rhetoric is dangerous, and people are getting hurt.

When I exercise, my brain is not just helping my body move. It is actively strengthening my memory. This research shows that during and after about 20 minutes of cycling, the hippocampus becomes more active. The hippocampus is the brain structure that helps form and organize memories. Scientists recorded brain signals from this region and observed brief bursts of electrical activity called hippocampal ripples. These ripples last only milliseconds but they are critical for memory consolidation. This is the process where the brain stabilizes and stores information we have learned. The figure shows that ripple activity increases during exercise and stays elevated afterward. That means physical activity can stimulate the neural patterns that help the brain replay and reinforce experiences. In simple terms, when I move my body, I am also giving my brain a chance to strengthen the circuits that support learning and memory. Exercise not only trains muscles. It also activates the biological processes that help the brain remember.

@fmfclips Data is pretty clear that short term changes in circulating anabolic hormones do not predict muscle growth/hypertrophy very well. This is also why testosterone boosting supplements are mostly bunk.

Consuming around 75 grams of added sugar is enough to temporarily drop your testosterone by ~25% That’s about as much sugar as you'd get from a donut and a soda Research shows this testosterone drop occurs within just 2 hours, driven in part by insulin spikes interfering with hormonal signaling While the dip is temporary, regularly snacking on sugar-loaded, ultra-processed foods likely means frequent hormonal disruptions, impacting mood, energy, and muscle mass

I will ask the team to find some studies for the newsletter. But I can tell you from experience: it doesn’t work. When I was winning powerlifting contests and bodybuilding contests, we had max days, but we earned them with a lot of normal work days in between,

@Schwarzenegger I teach HS Strength and Conditioning conditioning. As we all know HS kids just wanna max out every day, every lift. Do you know of any studies or data that I can share with them about how that's not the best way to grow strength? Thanks!
