Anyone who used this type of CD-R back then was a true veteran. They’d buy the shortest cable to connect the drive, or even custom-make one to minimize jitter. While writing, they’d close all apps, freezing without touching a key or mouse. If the burn failed, they’d literally see a $10 bill ascending to heaven. 💸💀

Why do we call it coffee and not bean water? The word “coffee” comes from the Arabic word qahwa, which originally referred to wine or a stimulating drink. The linguistic journey is: Arabic qahwa → Turkish kahve → Italian caffè → Dutch koffie → English coffee. So the word “coffee” is basically a tiny fossil of the trade routes that carried roasted beans from the Middle East into Europe. Which is beautiful, historic, and slightly troubling. Because apparently Starbucks heard “it used to mean wine” and decided to charge accordingly.

I always wonder if actors know they’re in a terrible movie. Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo definitely did on Super Mario Bros. so they hit the bottle. They were drunk for most of the filming. Hoskins said: “It was a fuckin’ nightmare.”
