Amen. Well said. I understand the appeal of wanting to belong, but it's all a facade. There's spiritual freedom in the biblical Christ, He's the only One who can set the captives free from deception. Unfortunately, very few come to the Light because they've been convinced they're already standing in it.

Growing up, I had a really close childhood friend whose parents separated. They were both really involved in the LDS cult, and I even remember them being my Sunday school teachers. Then suddenly, her mom left her dad and also left the cult. There was so much more to the story than people knew, but to others it just looked like she walked away from her family. I remember how quickly people started talking. At girls’ camp, one girl made passive-aggressive comments about my friend’s family. That night, my friend broke down crying. I just sat with her, hugged her, and told her everything would be okay. Even back then, I could see how much it hurt to feel judged when all she really needed was kindness. I remind myself that when people in the LDS cult get defensive, it’s because they’re protecting what feels like their entire world—their relationships, reputation, community, jobs, education, and sense of security. To them, it can feel like their happiness is being threatened. I remember what it was like to live in that mindset. True peace and real joy don’t come from an institution—they come from Jesus Christ alone. He is the only one who can truly heal, restore, and save. No cult, system, rituals or set of expectations can do what He does. And if you’re questioning things or even thinking about leaving, you are not losing everything. You are not alone.
