@gregbagwell More manoeuvring by the RN with the aim of winning support for more money. Like the other services (but more so) the Navy needs to spend the money it does get a lot more effectively, and, here's a novel idea, in the wider national interest./1

This is a very “bold” interjection by the 1SL, who has not said this in previous appointments. Few Nations are truly ready for war, but the UK taxpayer deserves better than this for £60+Bn a year. We are too small, but that doesn’t excuse a lack of readiness with what we have.

A heartbreaking moment that was saved by an SS photographer at Auschwitz II-Birkenau during the deportations of Hungarian Jews. It was taken 80 years ago, most likely in late May 1944. A little child finds a dandelion in the grass and is handing it or showing it to an older boy. All the people in this picture had already gone through the arrival selection and were awaiting to be murdered in a gas chamber. They were killed shortly after. Please repost this unique document.

I'm glad I lived through the high-water mark of American power in the 80s and 90s, because they idea that we'd go mewling to the Brits to fix our mistakes seemed unthinkable then.
Aaron Rupar@atrupar

Hegseth: "The president was clear this morning in his Truth that there are countries around the world who ought to be prepared to step up on this critical waterway as well. Last time I checked there was supposed to be a big bad Royal Navy that could be prepared to do things like that."

@RadioFreeTom We don't need the Brits to fix our mistakes. It would have been good for them to partner with us to secure their future energy security.

@chrislepkowski Have you seen the footage of him on YouTube doing a “beat the keeper” with Bruce Forsyth, not long after he got into the first team? Bruce directly addresses his height,as he looks a bit taller than him. You forget how young he was when he played at such a high level. RIP Tony. 🙏

Saddened to read the news about the passing of Tony Godden. His record of playing in consecutive #wba games will probably never be surpassed. A lovely man, and such a good goalkeeper. RIP

Wonder where Ryan Mason will end up next? Still think he’s an attractive proposition for clubs. Think he’ll end up in league one with a Barnsley/Blackpool/Huddersfield type job

@W12Newman @MrHarryCole The point is, their experiences aren’t particularly relevant, nor their priorities helpful, when we clearly need to give Defence a much higher focus.

@MrHarryCole Let’s have more geniuses like Boris and Liz rather than people who want to do good. Demonising charities is not somewhere I expected our little trumpettes to go in the UK. May be the mighty intellectual journalist harry could save us all a stand as a MP?

@truemagic68 I’d saying being Secretary of State for Defence, and not knowing how many ships we’ve got, definitely counts as not seeming on top of his brief!

Did you hear Defence Secretary's John Healey's interview with LBC'S Nick Ferrari - pitiful. There were certain issues he could not answer Nick on. Normally sure-footed, he didn't seem on top of his brief. Sir Ben Wallace followed with a blanced appraisal as to where the UK is at

On Ron Atkinson’s 87th birthday, a reminder of his famous football expressions from management and the commentary box - known as ‘Ronglish.’ Here he explains a few of his best ones, with the odd demo thrown in. This should be on the national curriculum.

France's Porte-Avions Nouvelle Génération (PANG) or New Generation Aircraft Carrier is formidable: • Displaces 75,000 tonnes • Nuclear powered • 2,000 crew • 30 fixed-wing aircraft - Rafale, SCAF, & E2 Hawkeye • 6-8 ASW helicopters. • Expected cost: €10 billion. As impressive as the "France Libre" will be, I worry that it puts too many eggs in one basket. In a world of naval drones and hypersonic missiles, three smaller vessels might be preferable to one big one.

@Chasmanthium @DPJHodges @DeborahMeaden We’d undoubtedly keep it purely flying air defence, well out of the way - which actually wouldn’t be incompatible with what Starmer has said is our posture. Would still be useful to the US, in terms of freeing up their other assets.

@DPJHodges @DeborahMeaden OK, thought experiment. So the other countries Trump has approached agree to provide support, then let's say a UK aircraft carrier is attacked and sunk. Does Trump A) immediately invoke NATO article 5? Or B) shrug & say, 'well it's, tough but they should be better prepared?'
