This is a very “bold” interjection by the 1SL, who has not said this in previous appointments. Few Nations are truly ready for war, but the UK taxpayer deserves better than this for £60+Bn a year. We are too small, but that doesn’t excuse a lack of readiness with what we have.

A heartbreaking moment that was saved by an SS photographer at Auschwitz II-Birkenau during the deportations of Hungarian Jews.
It was taken 80 years ago, most likely in late May 1944. A little child finds a dandelion in the grass and is handing it or showing it to an older boy.
All the people in this picture had already gone through the arrival selection and were awaiting to be murdered in a gas chamber. They were killed shortly after.

I'm glad I lived through the high-water mark of American power in the 80s and 90s, because they idea that we'd go mewling to the Brits to fix our mistakes seemed unthinkable then.

This is an astonishing fact from today’s Sunday Times. At least 224 out of 257 new Labour MPs elected in July 2024 came from either charities or communications/lobbying agencies, or were formerly “political employees”. It explains so much about Labour backbenchers’ priorities.

Did you hear Defence Secretary's John Healey's interview with LBC'S Nick Ferrari - pitiful. There were certain issues he could not answer Nick on. Normally sure-footed, he didn't seem on top of his brief. Sir Ben Wallace followed with a blanced appraisal as to where the UK is at

France's Porte-Avions Nouvelle Génération (PANG) or New Generation Aircraft Carrier is formidable:
• Displaces 75,000 tonnes
• Nuclear powered
• 2,000 crew
• 30 fixed-wing aircraft - Rafale, SCAF, & E2 Hawkeye
• 6-8 ASW helicopters.
• Expected cost: €10 billion.
As impressive as the "France Libre" will be, I worry that it puts too many eggs in one basket. In a world of naval drones and hypersonic missiles, three smaller vessels might be preferable to one big one.
