Excellent storytelling from @trentsinger. While Hollenbeck further solidified his brilliant legacy, a MAJOR shoutout to Jacob Sittig, an awesome dude & a heck of a coach who deserved better. And deserves a piece of that hardware! siouxfallslive.com/sports/prep/si…

When 21-year-old Kent Hrbek was called up straight from single-A Visalia, it meant he'd be getting home to Minnesota sooner than expected, where his dad had recently been diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease. First, though, he made his major league debut playing Gehrig's old position at Gehrig's old ballpark.

High school basketball is the ultimate test of grit. No endorsements, no millions on the line—just love for the game, pride for your school, and the desire to outwork your opponent. If you can succeed here, you can succeed anywhere.

"Today everybody wants to talk about their rights and their privileges. 50 years ago, people talked about their obligation and responsibility. You have obligations to other people. If you want to fail, you have the right to fail. You do not have the right to cause other people to fail because you do not do everything to the very best of your ability."

Appreciate the NOW. Rick Pitino is spot on. Every player’s hourglass runs out faster than they think. One day, the practices, the games, the grind - it’s all gone. Cherish every rep, every moment, every opportunity. Don’t waste your sand. ⏳

The school-to-prison pipeline is real, but I call it the public-school-to-prison pipeline to be more precise. A huge number of young males are bored out of their minds in school. They're not learning anything. They're disconnected from anything meaningful. So they get in trouble. If we didn't force them into this one-size-fits-all system, if they were out working and doing something meaningful at fourteen or fifteen like humans did for most of history, millions of lives would turn out differently. The pipeline starts with compulsory attendance laws that make no sense for who they are.

There has never been a coach in the history of coaching ever not earn their stipend. Not once. Everyone that has ever coached has done far more work than their $2500-$10,000 stipend allotted.

Many adults learned calculus in school. Most of them don't remember any of it. It's gone. They spent a year or more on the subject and retained nothing useful. Meanwhile they never learned personal finance or basic business accounting or how to evaluate a contract. The curriculum covered one and ignored the other. The problem isn't that school doesn't teach certain things. The problem is the fundamental approach of forcing people to learn whatever someone else decided is important. Any time you force people to learn something, they're less likely to actually absorb it and less likely to ever use it.

For any High School players & parents saying freshmen and sophomores shouldn’t play varsity and need to “pay their dues.” Sorry — 1980 is over. If they’re good enough, they’re playing varsity. Period. Guess you’re going to have to adjust.

Players think scoring a ton is how you get noticed by college coaches. FALSE! Coaches want toughness, effort, defense, high 🏀 IQ, coachability, and great teammates. Showcase that and coaches will notice. @nresultsrecruit
