The report on HDFC Bank’s large defaulter exposure published on April 9, 2026, originally published by @TheDailyPioneer and re-posted by your handle is totally inaccurate and grossly misleading. The amount published as ₹54,315 crore is based on a calculation that uses cumulative data at the director/guarantor level counting each individual separately instead of aggregating outstanding amounts at the borrower level, thereby overstating the total exposure.
TransUnion CIBIL confirms to HDFC Bank, “referring data available on our website is published as a part of regulatory disclosures, however, the manner in which the information has been interpreted by the publication does not reflect the appropriate calculation and therefore does not present the correct number, which is ₹18,892 crores.”
