Here's why the Yankees should pursue Tucker over Bellinger: Firstly, Tucker will be 29 next season and Bellinger will turn 31. That's important context for the following because you will assume that Tucker still has a longer prime ahead of him. Over the past three seasons, Tucker's wRC+ is 147. Bellinger's is 123. Tucker's OBP is .380, compared to Bellinger's .338. Tucker's SLG is .511, compared to Bellinger's .477. For those who love Bellinger's inability to strike out, Tucker's 14.5% K rate over the past 3 seasons is slightly better than Bellinger's 14.9% K rate. Additionally, with Tucker having a higher slug, his ability to pull the ball in the air would be massive playing half of his games in Yankee Stadium. Tucker's 45 percent pull percentage is higher than Bellinger's 43.9 percent pull percentage. Tucker's barrel percentage is 11 percent in this span, and Bellinger's is 6.7. Bellinger's xwOBA is .321 compared to Tucker's .388. We've established that Tucker is clearly a better offensive player. How about baserunning? Using FanGraphs' BsR, Tucker posted an accumulative 7.5 over the past three seasons. Bellinger had a 4.7. Tucker has stolen 66 bases compared to Bellinger's 42. Let's now focus on defense. Tucker's defense has slipped in the past three seasons. He's been worth 8 DRS, -5 OAA, -2 FRV. Bellinger's defense in the past three seasons has been 12 DRS, 15 OAA, 18 FRV. It should be noted that Bellinger graded out negatively in CF this season and played 26 innings at first base, so it's irrelevant that he can play there. How many playoff games are won because a team's left or right fielder made routine plays, or even spectacular ones? How many playoff games are won when you have more offensive talent in your lineup? These are the questions the Yankees should be asking.
