Yet another blog from me, this time about...well, I am not sure what it's about really, just me banging on. I do mention @adamboxer1 @teacherhead @Emma_Turner75 @SwailesRuth @Suchmo83 @PepsMccrea (although I fear I have missed many out). philsalisbury.wordpress.com/2026/02/17/the…

@Friendly_Maths @FrielRoss @adamboxer1 @mrbartonmaths I just tick and move in. Or give verbal feedback. Surely no one benefits from stopping to write something 🤔
English

@FrielRoss @adamboxer1 @HeadteacherTips @mrbartonmaths Exactly. Why am I going to waste time writing a comment in a student’s book when I’m physically stood with them and can correct the misconception verbally in a fraction of the time?
For me, books are for practice and should be self-marked where possible. I’ll mark assessments.

Six high-leverage teaching and learning techniques that we’ll be working on for the rest of the academic year - using group rehearsal and coaching to refine.
@adamboxer1 and @mrbartonmaths any tips from the experts?

English

@adamboxer1 @mrbartonmaths Designed for primary - so to cover all subjects. Not all answers require full sentences, but applies across the curriculum…
‘I know that 3 x 9 =27 and therefore 3 x 90 equals 270’
Or
‘I think the character is angry because the author has said he clenched his fist!’
English

@HeadteacherTips @mrbartonmaths Not from me im afraid. Im not really one for coaching or group rehearsal, dont use full sentences, live marking, TPS or positive narration in this way. Sorry!
English

@adamboxer1 @mrbartonmaths I need @mrbartonmaths to come to my rescue in that case!
Thanks for the reply 👌

***TEACHING AND LEARNING***
Thread 🧵
To improve the use of teaching and learning techniques in the classroom we need to define them “this is how we do it here” and make it common practice across the school.
When implementing T&L techniques their success relies on this clarity and creating opportunities for teachers to deliberately practice.
What have we done @LHS_HighSchool?
STEP 1
We have identified 10 core T&L techniques.

@mossmontmomery Thank you for the inspiration yesterday! Here’s a story about a basilisk lizard lifeguard! 🦎

@ChrisMoyse Hi Chris. I’ve turned the framework into a website. We need to add video clips, but definite progress! What do you think?
English

This is our teaching and learning framework which has been written as an evidence-informed guide. We’re using it to help coaches to give concise and actionable feedback to colleagues. It’s work in progress… Feedback welcome!

@SENDMattersUK Hi Gary. Here’s our teaching and learning framework (with the EEF 5-a-day woven through it). If you have a spare moment, I would love you thoughts!

A Thread on Handwriting…
Over the past 2 years, I have paid more attention to the way handwriting is taught than at any other point in my career. Handwriting seemed a fairly simple thing that pupils would just pick up with a few lessons on letter formation. I was wrong! Here are some things I think about now that I didn’t always consider before…
English

@adamboxer1 I suggest you forget about it for a week at which point you will 100% understand it.
English

@ChrisMoyse Perfect way to start the new term. Thanks again Chris!
