Over-explaining is the silent killer of maths lessons.
Tighter explanations
→ more thinking
→ better learning.
Say what matters.
Then get out of the way.
🧵
pay particular attention to:
- how the defense reacts with a more assured sweeper defending the space behind them
- their willingness to play out the back knowing back passes aren’t ticking time bombs
- the increased first phase effectiveness & ability to fully recycle play
I’m not here to downgrade Cunha’s work rate or compare him with Rashford, but when Doku comes back, Cunha will go back to the bench.
I’ll speak for myself, Cunha’s style of play feels like he struggles and delays passes. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion 🤷🏽♀️
I’m probably a bit stupid for saying this but… could Joshua Zirkzee be a midfielder?
Look how Eddie Howe converted Joelinton and how slick he is on the ball. He isn’t the typical predatory attacker, but he can progress the ball well so… is it worth trying out? 🤷🏽♂️
KOBBIE MAINOO:
He is not a Regista (controls the tempo from deep) e.g Andre Pirlo and Jorginho.
He is not a Deep-lying play maker (start attack from deep) e.g Xabi Alonso and Sergio Busquets.
He is not a Box to Box (covers both defensive and attacking areas) e.g Steven Gerrard and Yaya Toure.
He is not a Defensive Midfielder (destroyer/Ball winner who protects the defence and break up attacks) e.g Ngolo Kante and Casemiro.
He’s not an Advanced play maker (creative midfielder) e.g Bruno Fernandes and Kevin De Bruyne.
He’s not a Mezzala (an attacking central midfielder who drifts into half spaces to support attack) e.g Paul Pogba and Claudio Marchisio.
He’s not a Carrilero (a midfielder who covers wide spaces and supports both full backs and midfield) e.g Arturo Vidal.
He’s not a Trequartista (Operates between midfield and attack with freedom) e.g Francesco Totti.
What exactly is his profile and identity?
@EdorheJones@ammandev Bervatov averaged nearly a goal every other game, won golden boot one year and was a majestic player. Zirkzee averages 1 in 10. Don't disrespect Berba like that man
@ammandev Zirk is what Berbatov was for us similar skill set. They can drop to the midfield and set up attack while drawing fouls, he’s different from the other player that’s what make him very unique.
I'm absolutely losing my mind with the game over the last 2-3 games. I'm struggling to do the absolute most basic of things with my high end players, and I can't for the life of me figure out why.
@CanDoo2@ShakinthatChalk Some stuff needs teaching by rote others not. Trouble is the people who come out with teaching rhetoric see everything as right or wrong and everything either has to be rote or nit at all and vice versa. That's why nothing in education improves.
Dear maths teachers embarking on a career in teaching.
Rote procedures decay; mental models persist.
Teach for understanding for understanding *is* knowledge.
@adamboxer1@HeadteacherTips@mrbartonmaths There’s a massive push going on where I am at the moment on live marking. Trying to actually write a comment on as many books as you can per lesson.
I’m too busy teaching to mark books in a lesson usually.
Six high-leverage teaching and learning techniques that we’ll be working on for the rest of the academic year - using group rehearsal and coaching to refine.
@adamboxer1 and @mrbartonmaths any tips from the experts?
Two SSDD problem sets made for GCSE Functions if anybody's interested. Haven't used them yet so possible mistakes lurking, I have answers if anybody wants.

🚨 Saha
“Last time a full-back attacked like this, his name was Gareth Bale.. Now watch Dorgu… same finishing, same fear in defenders eyes. He’s not scoring against nobodies…he’s hurting City & Arsenal. This isn’t ‘next Bale’ talk…this is the trailer”
Out: Casemiro, Sancho, Maguire, Hojlund, Malacia.
50/50: Rashford, Dalot, Shaw.
In: Anderson, Baleba, Greenwood (controversial)
Dream Signing: Cole Palmer & Valverde (he is possible coz he is currently playing RB at Real)
Squad Building:
Delap to cover for Sesko.
Huijsen to replace Maguire
Robinson (Fulham) if we can sell Shaw for a good fee. (Will be 31 before the start of next season and is injury prone)
Petro Porro or Livramento for Dalot
United actually signing a midfielder for an interim but sacking Amorim for wanting one is classic pratness from the board. We're just living in a PR world where everything is reactionary and done to protect the board
Good football under Darren Fletcher and should be the interim coach.
Shea Lacey is a wonder kid to watch out for.
Sesko should have a hat trick but still a better player than gyokeres.
Dorgu was superb.
Zirkzee average
Casemiro and Ugarte were good but sloppy
Yoro average
Shaw average
Cunha disappeared second half
Martinez was excellent bar the goal.
Dalot sloppy
Lammens average
