@hinz_tamara Naegleria fowleri is found around the world, often in warm or hot freshwater (lakes, rivers, and hot springs). It is commonly found in lakes in southern-tier states but has caused infections in more northern states, including Minnesota. The amoeba grows best in warm or hot water.

@studentdrdemon Totally happened to me as a med student! "When you finish up your tasks, you can head out." But then I got paged and then reamed out for having left and therefore not being a team player and showing no clinical interest. Just say what you mean and don't play silly games.

One thing about being neurodivergent in medicine, when someone tells me to go home, it would never occur to me that they actually want me to offer to stay?? I got a comment on an eval saying I don’t seem interested or dedicated because I go home when I’m told to lmao

@hinz_tamara J didn't even want to try it because, at his grand old age of 9, tryouts are required. It seems ridiculous that he is already too old to try out a sport for fun. So instead he stays home rather than compete.

As my kids join soccer leagues for the first time, I am feeling a bit like an anthropologist as we dip our toes into the world of being a Sports Family. I didn’t really play sports as a kid so all of this is new to me.

@hinz_tamara Yup, O needed a red belt, cleats, grey b-ball pants. And at his "spring training" before the normal 2x/wk games I felt behind the ball as parents talked about booking extra 'skill intensives'. This is barely above tball, my folks.

A friend with a little one starting ball for the first time told me they were told to buy a specific colour of baseball belt for their 5 year old (in addition to a bunch of other equipment). Really??

@DrKellyVictory What? My dude-ette the air in some of my ORs is 50% exhaust and 10% weed from being sucked in from the parking lot vents. Also wouldn't that hyperoxygenated gas state lead to all the fires since cautery is a thing?

So, I went to my kids' dance class this morning. Ended the class, giving CPR to a vitals absent person. Restored circulation! Narcan given. Never been so glad to see someone breathe 3x a minute in my life. Narcan saves lives! Basic CPR is easy! Learn it and carry it!
