What an emotional day. Last prostate clinic and one stop for @prokarurol before his retirement. Friend, mentor, colleague. 28 yrs service. Innovator, technology enthusiast and true legend of urology. We will all miss him.

As a Urologist, I believe this post from @EricTopicus is seriously misleading. Readers and our patients need to recognize that. This RCT in @Lancet was not designed to test whether increasing fluid intake prevents stone recurrence. Rather, it evaluated the effectiveness of a personalized “fluid prescription” program vs usual care. When you understand what they want to test, you will become clear why no difference was observed between the two groups between the intervention group (the fluid prescription” vs control group (usual care)

If you've had a kidney stone, you've been advised that the most important thing to prevent another bout is to increase hydration. Now a randomized trial of hydration in over 1600 participants showed no benefit, despite evidence of increase during volume. thelancet.com/journals/lance…

An RCT of 1600 stone formers published in The Lancet randomised to a behavioural intervention programme to promote fluid intake ➡️ no reduction in stone recurrence ➡️ modest increase in urine volume 2 yr follow up thelancet.com/journals/lance…

The Urology Foundation was delighted to attend yesterday’s Parliamentary Reception on the Rare Cancers Act (2026). It was an excellent opportunity to celebrate that the Act has now officially been enshrined in law, following Royal Assent on Friday last week. #RareCancersAct

Discussion #EAU26 about the future of cystectomy neoadjuvant treatment and radiotherapy in muscle invasive bladder cancer. Things are changing rapidly. With pCR rates >50% for EVP many patients will want to keep their bladders. An era of ‘EVP 1st and ask questions later’ maybe a reality soon. Generation of EVP bladder sparing data is a priority. @Uroweb @EUplatinum

🚨 Gamechanger #PRIMARY2 RCT #EAU26, presented and in press @TheLancetOncol. PSMA-PET CT in men with equivocal or -ve MRI but red flags results reduces biopsy by 49% and has non-inferior csPCa detection to template biopsy in all. Proud to be part of this🚨

Amazing. Well done Notably, the last UK urologist to win was 40 years ago and was the late great Mr John Wickham (1985)
