MONDAY NIGHT UPDATE: Temperatures should go below freezing in Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, and Gadsden by 9pm, and freezing rain could lead to bridge icing soon after that. Freezing rain and bridge icing is possible south of I-59 later tonight, after midnight. Travel is highly discouraged north of Fayette, Jasper, Oneonta, and Fort Payne now due to ice on roads and bridges. Conditions will deteriorate in the Birmingham metro within the next three hours, and points south after midnight, mainly due to bridge icing. Arctic cold will settle into Alabama tomorrow; for many places it will be midday Wednesday before temperatures rise above freezing.

The line of severe storms continues to race through Alabama with gusts of 50-70 mph. At any given point it will only take 5-10 minutes for the line to pass. Many reports of trees down and power outages.

The core window for strong/severe storms will come from about 2-7 p.m. Storms will weaken as they move into a more stable airmass over East AL. The main concern is strong/damaging straight line winds. But, a few isolated tornadoes are possible over the western half of the state.
